Current: 83 Proposed: 90 Not sure if anyone disagrees with this assessment but it feels like coach Mike Malone relied on Murray more heavily when he needed the wins the most during the playoffs, letting him take over games because Murray is the kind of player who's now shown he can do that, and maybe that's the biggest compliment to Jamal? Even though Murray's stats were not elite during the regular season let's not forget he and Jokic led the Nuggets to the 3rd Seed in the West all season long, only for Murray to legitimately play like prime Steph Curry when it mattered, outmatching guys like Donovan Mitchell, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. With a guy like Devin Booker bumped to 88 earlier this year after only 24 regular season games since his previous rating change, on worse stats and efficiency, during a stretch when the Suns were 11W-13L and didn't even qualify for the playoffs, as a GM I know I'd prefer to take Murray who led his team to the 3rd Seed and has actually demonstrated he can play like a superstar when it really mattered, against the best teams in the league, in the biggest moments, and he did it consistently for 19 games over the course of the last six weeks: 26.5ppg 4.8rpg 6.6apg
51/45/90 (!!!!!)
through 19 games VORP - 2020 PlayoffsLebron 1.7 Jokic 1.7 Davis 1.6 Murray 1.5 Kawhi 1.5 Tatum 1.4 Harden 1.3 Adebayo 0.9 Win Shares - 2020 PlayoffsDavis 3.7 Lebron 3.1 Murray 2.7 Jokic 2.5 Leonard 2.4 Adebayo 2.4 Harden 2.4 Tatum 2.3

In addition to this - I'd like to see what Donovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum (both rated 85) will get bumped up to after these playoffs, they also both deserve to be 90 or thereabouts imho.

So I know on the tabled Westbrook SW I had put up some figures to support a drop, but I think for guys who had bubble performances— good or bad— we should wait till at least 25-30 games into next season to me before posting SWs. Some examples of guys who could definitely stand to be downgraded if they continue their bubble trends into next season’s first third: - Paul George
- Westbrook
- Pascal Siakim
- Kemba Walker
- Lou Williams/Trez Harrell
Some guys who definitely with continued success if next season looks like the bubble stats for them:- Jaylen Brown
- Mitchell
- Tatum
- Murray
- CP3
- Jokic
In short, I agree with you Ian Noble that some guys need adjustments, but I do believe we need something to the effect of a 45-50 game sample size when combining the bubble stats with the first third of next season to ensure they were not fluky.

I think that's fine for Westbrook because he'd only played 16 games since his last rating change, so I trashed the thread, but for Jamal here I disagree - he hasn't had a rating change since 17th Feb 2019 and just blitzed the playoffs.

The issue with raising Murray before we see him in the regular season, for me, is that his shooting percentages in the bubble were so much better than they were in the regular season.
Regular season: 45.6% FG, 34.6% 3p Playoffs: 50.5% FG, 45.3% 3p
It's hard for me to say he is any better or worse of a player, because his increase in scoring can basically solely be accounted for by shooting insane percentages. We saw a lot of guys in the bubble do this (Warren, Mitchell, even MPJ to some extent).
I understand Ian's argument that it was over a 19 game stretch, but I don't think we can say that this is the "new Murray" when we haven't yet seen if his shooting is sustainable in normal conditions.
Like some others in this thread, I am voting for No Change based on any bubble performances until we see them in the regular season next year.

Even if we were doing stockwatch I'm not sure Murray is a top 5 PG right now, so what ratings should the others be? Not saying he won't get there in a year or two, just don't see it now

Murray absolutely killed it in the bubble. I hate the “we should wait because they’re in the bubble” argument. These are playoff games, and matter much more than any 25 game regular season stretch that some of you are calling for.
With that being said, 90 seems just a tad high.

I gotta say, I think Murray really burst out this post-season. But for anything close to a 90, I'd want to see this over the regular season. I can say 86 for now. I think he's earned that.

Damn Murray's really going to get a lower rating than Booker huh? Because Booker did it in the regular season for longer I'm assuming? Nevermind Booker didn't even qualify for the playoffs, let alone lead his team to 3rd Seed and single-handedly blitz elite competition every single playoff game.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If we were making ratings off of one playoff run, I think the majority here would vote Murray into the 90-93 range. He was amazing.
But he also only averaged 18 and 5 on 45% during the regular season, and I think there’s the additional element that people are reasonably questioning bubble performances.
I think a jump to 87 is really fair considering I would have voted no change without the playoff performance. A 4 point swing for what very well could be a ~15-20 game hot streak is generous enough IMO.
He’s obviously on everyone’s watch list now and his performance, and the Nuggets performance, next year will definitely be eligible for a further increase, I don’t see why you think this isn’t reasonable lol.
87.

Not sure this even warrants a response but it’s really no comparison, Booker was better than Murray in just about every statistical category they track. Proposing a 90 for Murray is the definition of reactionary.

Don't forget the fact that if you take out his really couple of really big playoff games, his stats drop significantly. I recognize the obviousness of my comment, but I'm thinking specifically about either the first or second round series where despite his couple of big games, he was still only averaging like 17-18 points for the series. I could be wrong though.

I'm not going to fight it, everyone has their own opinions. I fully expect Murray to go back to his regular season self whenever 2021 starts only to turn on the jets again in time for the Playoffs next year though. If that marks him down in peoples opinions then so be it, I'm proud of ma boy for what he achieved this year

Here is an idea. How about Ian Noble clones both players, so the Celtics are made up of 15 Jamal Murrays, and the Nets are made up of 15 Devin Bookers. The Boston Murrays and the Brooklyn Bookers play a 7 game series and the winner gets a 90 rating. The loser then gets a 65 rating and is forcibly traded to the Clippers.

I've long been one of the most "watch out for playoff performances" guys. I get that players turn it on, whether some fans like that or not, and don't give it their all during the longer regular season, every night, in the same way.
But still, these ARE undoubtedly small sample sizes, and the way they play the game in general changes a bit, too. Let alone this year, with the huge layoff before restarting the season, in a bubble, with no fans, and shooting numbers across the board soaring, I have an even healthier dose of skepticism.
Playoff performances are certainly worth considering and are a data point, but I think a 90 is too heavily weighted towards an odd/weird/interesting/crazy run over a Small Sample Size.
I think he's earned an 87 though.

Is he realistically worse than Kyrie?
89.5 is my vote.

Guess I posted this thread too soon. Jamal posting: 17.7ppg 4.7rpg 2.0apg 39/36/68 to start the season. And first game he hit one shot.
