DYNASTY FIVE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER 2019
JAMES HARDEN
Denver Nuggets
Despite clearly being regarded as one of the top GMs throughout the full history of the league silverware has somehow been relatively hard to come by for GM Alex English, therefore it gives me great pleasure to announce this year's Dynasty Five Most Valuable Player: James "The Beard" Harden of the Denver Nuggets!
This season there was one team who looked unbeatable in the regular season, the Nuggets went for 69 wins, the third highest in D5 history! and out alone in a tier by himself they were led by the man behind The Beard, Mr James Harden!
For the first time in D5 memory the Golden State Warriors showed signs of mortality this season and in their place stood a new 1st Seed in the West: James Harden and the Denver Nuggets. It's taken many years of roster management from GM Alex English but the Nuggets finally reached a tier all alone by themselves this year, reaching the Finals where they were unexpectedly beaten by the Bucks in six games, but it was Harden who led the way the whole time, he was the nexus around which these finalists were constructed. Nowhere was James's dominance exhibited better than in the Western Conference Semi Finals versus the Thunder, which the Nuggets won in 6 games, where Harden averaged 37ppg including a 53point outburst in Game 5 that steamrolled Denver towards the deciding Game 6. Harden would go on to average a Jordanesqe 34.4ppg and 10.8apg throughout the entire playoffs, leading the league in both categories throughout the full post season.
Alex English earned Executive of the Year honours back in 2013, the year in which Harden joined the Nuggets, and since then there's been a carousel of cast members surrounding their centrepiece whilst they jostled for championship contention. It all seemed to come together this year as Harden teamed up with Chris Paul, whilst the underrated Tobias Harris solidified a frontcourt led by Lamarcus Aldridge, veteran Brook Lopez, and Alex English's draft pick, acquired whilst contending for championships, the prodigious Pascal Siakam.
This is an award that has been coming for a long time for Harden, as the perennial leader of the Nuggets he has always been a major contender for the award, officially runner-up last year and recognised in the MVP race as long ago as 2013, Alex English earns some long awaited and long deserved gold to live on his profile for the rest of D5 history!
Congratulations to the Denver Nuggets, Alex English and to James Harden for the most accomplished year in their D5 History!
