Dynasty Five's
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER 2018
LEBRON JAMES
Golden State Warriors
GM: Chris Mullin
For the third time (1, 2) in Dynasty Five history the Most Valuable Player Award goes to Lebron James, being his first as a member of the Golden State Warriors!
To the sound of the lamentations of all D5ers, Chris Mullin adds yet another gold icon to his profile today as his Warriors dominance of Dynasty Five continues apace. Another 70 win season? No problem. Golden State have gone 142W - 22L in the past two years and nobody is more responsible for this sustained hegemony than The King himself who led Golden State in points, assists, rebounds and blocks on the year.
Lebron had his name on this year's award early-on when the first ever D5 GM Survey tipped him to edge out Russell Westbrook and James Harden who, whilst they both performed tremendously, take a back seat for the award this year - one man was a tier above the rest. At age 33 Lebron continues to fend off younger challengers to his throne, you come at The King, you best not miss and nowhere was Lebron's excellence showcased more than in Game 1 against the Grizzlies in which the league was witness to what is undoubtedly the greatest single player performance in D5 history.
Amongst other notables Kevin Durant provided possibly the most single impact as a player for OKC, leading the Thunder to 55 wins despite the departure of Demarcus Cousins early in the season and finishing the year as scoring leader. Lebron's teammate Steph Curry held forth in the backcourt for the 70 win Warriors all season long, James Harden and Russell Westbrook were both indispensable for their teams, and last year's MVP Anthony Davis led the Bucks to the top of the East again! However with yet another 70 win season and a direct-line drive to the Finals to top it off, where the Warriors currently stand 1 win away from being the first ever back-to-back D5 Finals winners, Lebron stood alone as this year's clear choice for MVP.
As James ends his 15th Season he shows no signs of slowing, there's no knowing how long his reign will last. Unlike in real-life Lebron has had the luxury of being traded to form a Golden State superteam, instead of signing via free agency like Kevin Durant, and this has both assured his legacy as well as put him in a far better situation to win more championship rings and succeed in the future.
Congratulations on another dominant year to the Golden State Warriors, Chris Mullin and to Lebron James, 2012, 2014 and now 2018 Dynasty Five Most Valuable Player!
