So, his salary in 2018 will not count for me, right?

So, his salary in 2018 will not count for me, right? Kind of a weird set of circumstances with Deron ( link). You cut him before I retired him, but since I retired him it does make sense to cut his salary from your team. However - did I do the right thing retiring him? Just like that linked article says, not even Deron Williams seems to know!

I don't think he should be retired unless he has flat out said he has done so.

Yes, Lee I will take off your salaries.

If someone cut a player here, the salary should never be forgiven. The act of cutting a player enters you into a contractual agreement to pay out his salary, regardless of anything else that happens.

Hmm. Not sure if I agree. I mean, if we forgive salaries when players retire, that's the main wrench in this line of thought. Josh, couldn't your line of thought also apply to signing a player? "The act of signing a player in FA enters you into a contractual agreement to pay out his salary, regardless of anything else that happens.".......Except if he retires... I dunno, I just am not sure it's this clear, cut and dry.

I dunno, I just am not sure it's this clear, cut and dry. I think cutting is different than signing. For cutting, the player no longer has to do anything to fulfill his end of the bargain. His obligations are completely finished at that point in time. For signing a player, he is obligated to keep playing in order to get paid. If he decides to not complete his end of the deal and retire, he voids the contract and stops getting paid. It works the same in real life NBA AFAIK.

I feel like Mike Dunleavy should be on this list. I can't find anywhere that he's officially retired, but he wasn't on a roster at all last year and there's no indication that he intends on playing basketball again.
