Pelicans trade: 84 Andre Drummond $3,992,234 78 Alec Burks $14,274,744 $14,274,744 $15,844,966 $17,429,463
Total: $18,266,978
Lakers trade: 78 Tristan Thompson $7,000,000 $7,000,000 $7,500,000 68 Thon Maker $1,866,500 $1,950,500 $2,034,500 $2,803,541 $3,857,672 72 Chris Kaman $7,632,971 (Contract)
Total: $16,499,471
Works under 125%
This is a tough pill to swallow, I traded a huge amount for Andre and at the time saw him as a cornerstone of our next great team. However the results simply haven't been there and its time to admit failure and move forward. If we maxed Andre this summer I'd be stuck with a team that clearly doesn't work with no options. I like Tristan and Thon and this gives our team more flexibility going forward.
I accept.

I accept.
I also need a team with change of direction, I have enough cap space for next year to resign Drummond even with Barnes birdrights and a potential cap space jump.

Being in the West pushed you to this Brian Scalabrine! A team like yours would easily make the playoffs in the East. Well done Magic Johnson, I think Drummond is definitely the better long term piece in this deal, even though he's under-performed this year for Detroit. I think the Lakers win but you guys are both two long term GMs with a plan. I accept.

Must've been a tough pill to admit you lost that Turner trade. Kudos for understanding sunk cost.

Why would LA do this? Drummond will leave in free-agency.

Might have been more to it but that was the bulk of it if i remember correctly. Edit: dynasty5ive.proboards.com/thread/6338/bucks-pelicanstheres the trade, it included LAL 1st which is currently 11th (and climbing if this trade go through) which went to MIL in the trade.

Between that and the copious amount of picks Brian had stashed away it made sense (to me at least) to trade away some of those lottery tickets for a more established young talent in Drummond (21 or 22 years of age) to both pair with and help secure the re-signing of Hayward.

Another factor was I thought trading for Drummond would ensure Monroe signed with me in Free Agency, back when he was good.

Was hoping the Laker pick would be a decent one. That likely changes now. But both teams made a good deal. Good luck to both.

Drummond should be worth more, but Magic has to risk that he leaves in free agency, so that part makes sense. I'm not really sure the Pelicans need to blow it up though, but I guess that boat set sail when Knight was traded. With no point guard that team is in a weird place. Accept.
