The Utah Jazz release Lance Stephenson. Phase 2 is the Kansas City Shuffle. Everyone looks one way, and you go the other. There's a lot of teams with the cap space to sign Lance this offseason. But there's only a few right now.

About half the league is under the cap.
Can you resign someone you just released?

This may cause other GMs to look at doing things like this. If they can position themselves correctly.

Not sure how I feel about this kind of tactic, but I'm really impressed with how Josh thought of doing it.
How much cap space do I have? $17m? Time to use it, muahahhahaah

Personally, I feel like Stephenson's agent should like the devotion shown by the Jazz. Nice move Barber!

I don't see how it's devotion. He's trying to rig the market in his favour. Trading for Lance and keeping him, then offering a big contract in the off-season is devotion. This is the Utah Jazz organization trying to remove as much decision making power from Lance Stephenson as possible. Lance should be insulted that they are attempting to remove his ability to choose the best option for himself. If a team has to resort to dirty tricks like this in order to feel that they have a shot at signing Lance then what does that say about the ability of that organization to build a winning basketball team?
The answer for Lance is clear in this case. He should sign with the Denver Nuggets. We offer him the chance to be part of a dynasty. He can waste the prime of his career being forgotten on a bottom feeder team in Salt Lake City or he can join one of the best teams in the league.

Once again you say things and cause problems, just to put things in your favor. Your smart about things like this. Anyway you can to move the decision closer to giving you the best chance. It was a smart move but in the end this comes down to the player and his agent. You think your team is a Dynasty? Wow you took players from a game. You really have not amazed anyone. No real monetary investment. I just think the end result of this needs to be decided by Ian. Its his league. No rules at this time were broken. I cant wait to see the outcome.

Haha JR man, it's trashtalk. I'm shit talking the move Josh made but then the very next thing I say is that he should sign with my team. Then the next few posts are us quoting Sun Tzu at each other. It's an act lol.

Is there a waiver system? Because I'd like to claim him if so. I have the worse record so I'd get him I'm pretty sure.

Or a team could claim him off waivers and only pay the prorated salary so it would be like 400k or something at this point.

Or do we let this fly and then add the rule?

Post by Jeremiah Hill on Apr 24, 2014 1:11:09 GMT
Of course he'd still have to go through regular bidding process to sign him.

I'd personally be in favor of adding waivers just like the real nba. Though first this situation Josh should be able to do with lance whatever as rule didn't exist.

And this is all a media move to cover up Lance's multiple fights in the locker room!
Unique and smart move though; kinda cheap at the same time. Good thing I wasn't targeting him cause he's headed back to Utah! Or Memphis, Boston, Atlanta, Milwaukee...

I can understand letting this incident go, but is this really the kind of precedent we want to be setting?

These kind of things are good for the league. Now we make a rule and im sure someone else will try and figure out one. But def good for the league.

Of course the player would want what hes worth. So he may not take certain offers. He may just want to sign a contract to finish out this season. And sign a bigger contract in FA.

Man, if I had the talent to play pro basketball and got cut by a team, it'd be a cold day in Hell before I went back to them. But that is just me; I hold grudges.
Maybe Lance, being a hard nosed kid who grew up in the BK, does too.

I'm loving all this anti-Jazz propaganda being used to lure Lance away from me. This may very well be the start of the UTAH BAD BOYS era Led by Lance and Waiters
