I accept. Moving up in this draft puts me at a greater position to draft a player that fits my team better. Giving up the 24th overall pick doesn’t really sting due to the quality of this draft, but by 2022 we’ll most likely be contenders so the 2nd rounder won’t matter anyways.

24 feels like PLENTY to give up to move up 2 spots. 7 vs 9 is practically no difference according to everyone. I would accept this if it was 7 for 9 & the 2nd in 2022 tbh... I don't expect Scal to do THAT, but I think that's closer to even than what this trade is with 24 and the 2nd both in it. The 2nd really feels extraneous to me, that's all.

Irl Dallas last year gave their first, which turned out to be #10 to move up 2 spots from 5 to 3. This is a much lower price than that

Quite a haul for NOP here— that 2022 double draft pick is a nice throw in

So I was going to check who Utah are jumping ahead of, and they're just jumping ahead of the Pelicans

Quite a haul for NOP here— that 2022 double draft pick is a nice throw in I have a feeling this is going to be much less of an issue than people are anticipating. I find it hard to believe that players who would normally be a first round pick are going to just submit to the draft and be okay going second round. I think what you're going to see is a stronger lottery as a handful of high school kids enter the draft, but I don't think it's going to be as dramatic as people are anticipating. I think your late 1st round to 2nd round picks are going to be similar to what you get today.

I think while elements of what you’re saying is true— such as everyone wanting the guaranteed 1st round contract vs nonguaranteed 2nd round contracts— I believe ultimately these guys are told you have to get to the league earliest possible chance to start the clock towards the all important second NBA contract. That’s where I think the impact will be in 2022 where guys will say I have to get to the League to get my second contract sooner and now have to contend with HS guys who could take my spot

Yeah this is a huge price to pay to move up two spots. Especially in this draft where things open up so much after the top three that the guy you want at 7 would probably still be there at 9. I still accept though, I guess. Hard to argue this is disastrous for Utah when there are good odds that whoever is picked at 24 and with that second rounder will bust anyway. Still, very nicely done by New Orleans. This is a steal of a trade.

Did anyone add the fact that Utah is just jumping over the Pelicans?

I like this for utah. 24 in this draft is meh and 2nd rounders are hit or miss. I’d much rather get to move up two spots and guarantee I get a guy I like then hope he falls to 9.

Did anyone add the fact that Utah is just jumping over the Pelicans? How does that change anything?

Did anyone add the fact that Utah is just jumping over the Pelicans? How does that change anything? One could surmise that NOP has said he wants to draft a player that Utah wants and Utah was willing to leap frog him. Other than that IDK.
