The new salary cap is projected to be $101,000,000 and can be used in free agent negotiations, but this figure will change when we find out exactly what the new salary cap will be.

Sunday 1st July represents the start of Off Season Free Agency (OSFA). Which means Saturday 30th June is the deadline date for the following:

Team Options Deadline

Team Options must be picked up in order to keep your players.
Do this in the TO Section. Players without TOs picked up will enter Off Season Free Agency.

Bird Rights Deadline

Bird Rights must be claimed in the Bird Rights Thread before Saturday's deadline.

2nd Round Signings Deadline
Players drafted in the 2nd Round of last year's Rookie Draft must be picked up before the deadline by replying to the thread provided.


Start of OSFA
These three changes were implemented last year but I'll reiterate them to be clear:

1. Increase/decrease amount is now a maximum of 7.5%:

The maximum an offered salary can increase/decrease per year is by 7.5% of the initial offer or the league minimum salary.

For instance, if a team offers a $10,000,000 contract, the most they may offer in the second year is $10,750,000. The most they may offer in the third year is £11,500,000 ($10,750,000 + 7.5% of $10m) and so on.

2. Bird Rights are a maximum of 5 years length. Normal contracts are a maximum of 4 years.

Previously the amount was 6 years with BRs or 5 years without.

3. Team Options will be rare.

Try to avoid offering Team Options. The Player Agents are going to try and avoid TOs because, outside of rookie contracts, there's only like three players with TOs in their contracts in the entire NBA.

Also a reminder that Team and Player Options can only exist in the final year of a contract.

Mid-Level Exception*
Currently the following teams will possess the MLE amount ($8,406,000), to spend on free agents throughout OSFA and next season, if nothing changes with their team salaries from now until OSFA starting:

While there aren't a lot of team options in the real nba, there are a ton of non-guarenteed contracts which are essentially the same thing. Obviously high rated players shouldn't sign contracts with TOs but I think lower rated guys should be open to the idea.

The actual Salary Cap for 2018/19 is usually announced by the NBA on the 2nd or 3rd July. Until the actual Salary Cap is announced we will negotiate with the assumption of a $101,000,000 Salary Cap with accompanying Maximum Contracts and a Hard Cap of $176,750,000.

The Mid-Level Exception has risen to $8,568,000. Teams who are able to use their MLE are listed in the original post of this thread.

The Knicks Spike Lee missed the deadline on claiming Robert Covington's Bird Rights and picking up Team Options on Frank Kaminsky, Buddy Hield, Dragan Bender and Wade Baldwin.

I don't want to ruin the Knicks but there needs to be repercussions: the TOs can stay but New York loses Bird Rights on Robert Covington and will also be barred from signing any FAs rated 80+ this off season.

Any chance that the latter sanction can be rescinded? That might have long lasting effects for the franchise. I understand the need to lay down the law but I think the loss of Covington’s BRs is enough

I also don't like that. I think we have 16 (or more?) teams using the MLE this year. That means there are only 14 teams out there with real cap space and an ability to shake things up, and you're cutting one out completely?

There's a good chance he doesn't have quite enough to pull a Giannis or LeBron in anyway, but we've seen some mid-level stars who still get full max contracts go to a team like his in the past, and I think overall that's good for the league.

This league is tough. I totally get where Ian's coming from. Then again, for the health of the league, sometimes really hard decisions need to be made. And sometimes, going "easy" may actually be for the betterment of the league's health long-term. I believe Ian pretty much always has the long-term health of the league in mind, at every step. And, he thinks about it in both a broader and more specific way than any of us, usually. I think in this case he may be losing sight of the big picture, but, that's just my take.

He didn't intend it to happen, he claimed BRs and TOs right after I PMd him.

It's a harsh punishment but I think it's fair.
