Mid Level Exception (2018/19)Mid Level Exception - $8,568,000- The only teams who possess the MLE are teams that are over the Salary Cap, and teams under the cap by an amount less than the MLE, on the starting day of Off Season Free Agency (July 1st). If a team drops below the Salary Cap by an amount more than the MLE on that date then they forfeit their MLE.
- GMs may use all or part of their Mid Level Exception to sign a player if their team is over the Salary Cap, but not the Hard Cap.
- The MLE can be used on multiple players.
- The amount of MLE money a team can use resets each season at the start of every Off Season Free Agency. Previous MLE signings have no impact on the amount a team can spend.
These teams may use the MLE: Charlotte Hornets - $8,000,000 ** Chicago Bulls - $8,568,000 * Dallas Mavericks - $2,662,622 * Denver Nuggets - $4,350,000 ** Golden State Warriors - $6,500,000 * Houston Rockets - $3,568,000 * Indiana Pacers - $5,000,000 * LA Clippers Milwaukee Bucks - $8,568,000 * Minnesota Timberwolves Oklahoma City Thunder Phoenix Suns - $8,000,000 * Sacramento Kings San Antonio Spurs Toronto Raptors - $5,000,000 * Washington Wizards - $8,568,000 *See 2017/18 Mid Level Exception thread here.

Can we clarify: if a team is below the salary cap by less than the MLE (say $95m), does that team get to spend $6m first (up to cap of $101m) and then also get the MLE? or does that team only get the $8.5m MLE total to spend?

I believe the Pistons should not have the MLE, but the Wizards should.
