Dynasty Five's
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER 2016
KEVIN DURANT
Oklahoma City Thunder
GM: Kevin Hollis
This year's Dynasty Five Most Valuable Player Award goes to Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder!
Durant's kept the Thunder at the top of Dynasty Five's Western Conference since the league began with a cast built around him that has revolved multiple times, with the departure of Russell Westbrook and James Harden after only a few days of the league starting, five seasons ago, to the arrival of Demarcus Cousins a month later, it looked like all the pieces were in place this year with the acquisition of Tyreke Evans, JR Smith, Mike Conley and Gerald Green slotting in seamlessly around Durant and sidekick Cousins.
Injuries however, as the D5 Bucks can tell you, can come out of nowhere and this year they took their toll on the Thunder in a big way, knocking out Tyreke Evans and Mike Conley for lengthy and crucial stages of the season and playoffs!
This Most Valuable Player is awarded to Kevin Durant for actually propelling the Thunder beyond what was expected even without these vital teammates by his side, taking them to second place in the stacked Western Conference during the regular season, to a 61 win record just short of the almighty Warriors who were then beaten convincingly by Durant as the Playoffs rolled around on the biggest stage in the West; the Western Conference Finals! The two-headed titans of Steph Curry and Lebron James somehow managed only two wins in the series as the Thunder closed out many games that could've gone either way, and all of this came after an epic seven game series with the Denver Nuggets!
Durant's performance actually managed to make us start questioning the sim engine and the ways in which we compose our teams and he may have even taken the mantel of "Sim-God" from the ageless Dirk Nowitzki! Two players who have been shown unquestioning and absolute loyalty by their managers through the years here at D5!
Durant's in-game rating began at a 94, rose to a historic high of 97 and has never wavered. For the second time in D5 History Durant came close to winning it all, taking his Thunder all the way to the Finals as he did against the Celtics back in 2012, falling just short of the summit to his old teammate's, Russell Westbrook's Charlotte Hornets.
In an extremely close MVP race against his former teammate, Durant opened the Finals with a statement 49 point outburst in Charlotte against Westbrook, leading the uninjured contingent of his team against yet another mighty contender, but falling just short of glory after a truly stellar 2016 MVP campaign.
Congratulations on a spectacular year to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kevin Hollis and of course Mr Kevin Durant, 2016 Dynasty Five Most Valuable Player!
