Andrei Kirilenko - should Gerald Wallace retire yet? I know was cut in September 2015, but he hasn't announced his retirement.

He didn't announce anything but I think he's clearly not coming back. I'm definitely biased though as I don't want his salary on my books. Maybe we should league vote? Idk the rules around this.

No way, if a player might come back you can't retire them.
They need to be retired when they are "retired".
If you sign Boozer to a fucking 4 year deal you have to suck it up until he retires. If he is playing in China he would play in the NBA if he had a contract. He has a contract here. He plays here.

Ian Noble - I'm fine with it being in here, sure. Makes the most sense I think. I wouldn't retire GWall just yet. I think our thought process was after 2 years of not playing in the NBA, it might be time. So, if he played in the 2014-15 season, he hasn't played at all this season, that's one year out. If he doesn't play at all next year (2016-17 season) then we can retire him in the 2017 offseason. Now, I do actually like Adam's thought process on overseas guys. If they're still playing, even if it's not NBA, they should remain available in this league, though perhaps their ratings should take a hefty hit.

If he isn't retired, he isn't retired. If Bynum was making the money IRL he was making here he wouldn't be retiring either. en.yibada.com/articles/107973/20160306/lakers-rumors-central-andrew-bynum-comeback-in-los-angeles-chandler-parsons-free-agency-d-angelo-russell-upside.htmYou can't force a player to retire. There's a difference between being out of the NBA because you retire, and being out of the NBA because you suck. Just because they suck too bad to be on an NBA roster doesn't mean they "retire" here to give irresponsible owners cap breaks.

I'm not arguing either way I'm just trying to figure out if I need to trade Wallace. Historically in D5 we have treated these situations as retirements

#FREEJR I love how as a league we already had this conversation but because a gm asks about his player being retired it comes back to me. Every GM at some point or another knew Bynum was retiring from D5. Each GM that had him knew. He was traded multiple times with this known before hand. Other players will retire as well and we will notate that somewhere as well. This is all I'm saying on the issue. Others will be traded with the same knowledge of the trade being for cap. Good bye to those retiring and thanks for being part of the nba and our league.

Any verdict on this? Will Bynum/Wallace be retired or no?

Isn't Wallace still being paid IRL?
I don't know how it works in the NBA, but in other leagues, when you retire, you lose your salary, regardless of if they cut you or not. A team can buy you out and then you can just not play again, but because you have not filed retirement papers, you will still get paid.
If Wallace is still being paid IRL, don't retire him. If he is not being paid, then retire him. But, if a buyout was reached, and that is why he is not being paid, then I don't think retiring him in here is the right call and the "2 year" guideline is what should be used.

Andrei Kirilenko - I would say that Gerald Wallace is not yet retired, whereas Andrew Bynum seems to me to be clearly out of the game. Wallace hasn't played for 9 months, whereas Bynum hasn't played for over 24 months and his attitude towards the game, like Larry Sanders, is complete apathy. Weirdo Reporter: Are you retired? Andrew Bynum: " Yes"

Don't really see how we all the sudden make an arbitrary 2 year rule. Gerald has been out for 1.5 seasons. I don't see how the Bynum and Gerald situations are different but w/e Wallace is still collecting an NBA paycheck.

I don't see how the Bynum and Gerald situations are different but w/e I don't know what the cut-off point is. It's more that the perception is that Andrew Bynum obviously does not want to play any more, whereas Gerald Wallace has not given an indication either way and played right up until the end of last season. If we retired GW, there'd be a load of other guys we'd have to start considering who also aren't retired and whatever system we have would be broken.

Might as well do, he's playing in Moscow now. I wont remove him from the database, I'll just remove him from active rosters.

Ian NobleGlenn brings up my next question. If he does return to the NBA do I have his rights? I'm just wondering if a player automatically taken off a roster if not played for 2 years or do I have to option to keep him or take him off my roster?

Primarily because it would become a nightmare to administrate! edit: Retirement construes removal from the database really, although guys like Kobe and Bynum will probably linger there for a while until I clear them out.

It could honestly go either way with Nando.

I say a good rule of thumb is that D5 Contract takes precedence when it comes to a player that never officially "retired". So Nando/Bynum hang out on the roster of a GM until the contract is cut or over. These players are not added back to the Free Agent pool until they return. And after a reasonable time then we can just delete them.
If that player retires in real life, like really really retires IE Kobe. Then their removed from the database.
