Just one question are we gonna have an amnesty clause in this league just like the NBA have in real life.

I think if a team uses the amnesty clause in real life, we'll allow a team to do the same here.

So even if the team you have uses the amnesty in like 2 or 3 years, at that point you would still allow the D5 team to use it?
Would it be the same rules - Can only use it on a player who is on your actual roster at the start of this sim season? So you can't trade for someone and amnesty them. Just wondering

Sorry I think I misunderstood what the amnesty clause was exactly. I had thought it was for players like Brandon Roy who the Blazers might have wished to not count against their cap because his career ended prematurely.
It seems like it means you can waive your team's largest contract every once in a while? I'm not sure I agree with that. GMs should exercise caution surely?

It could be a one time thing. Only do it once, and then be done with it. If you dont use it now, then you dont get another chance with it. This way GM's aren't punished for dumb contracts given out by real GM's. (ie. Charlie Villanueva, Ben Gordon)

The real-life Amnesty clause that the NBA put into this new CBA gave each team the opportunity to cut ONE player's salary that was CURRENTLY on it's roster at the time of the new CBA. There was no time-limit given to use this, but since it had to be used on a contract that was already on their team...effectively it needs to be used in the first 4-5 years at most after the CBA.
As Pistons said there, we could modify it slightly:
Each team has the chance to release one player and his salary completely from their team. This player must have been on your original roster at the start of the league. You have until the beginning of the season to use this amnesty clause.
Something like that?

I would thank you, but as a real-life Knicks fan, I can't utter those words to...well, I can't say the name either...you know, your ID.

I think we should also have the Amnesty clause used in the NBA today.
Personally, I want to get rid of one of the bad contracts that I have in my current roster. It's eating up the space with no equivalent value. It's like spending a lot and getting less or nothing in return.
Update us please.

Would be good to note that some teams have already used their Amnesty Clause to wipe some real big contracts. Of course, it'd still be your call if you do include the clause, to still allow them to use the Clause.
Those teams are the Orlando Magic (Gilbert Arenas), the New York Knicks (Chauncey Billups), the Golden State Warriors (Charlie Bell), the Cleveland Cavaliers (Baron Davis), the New Jersey Nets (Travis Outlaw) and the Portland Trailblazers (Brandon Roy).

We should be able to use the amnesty clause at any time.

Phoenix and especially Dallas have done a lot of work this afternoon looking into the nature of how the Amnesty Clause works and I want to thank them first of all for going through it in such detail. There are two reasons though why I'm not going to include Amnesty Clauses: 1. I've never included them in any sim league I've operated in the past. 2. I need to keep the amount of time I delegate to administrational changes on the league to a minimum. I operate an MMO game that I'm also in charge of and I work full time too (!), so catering for an additional extra like Amnesty Clauses, which I personally don't believe to be an important part of the sim league experience, is something I'd like to avoid. Also Amnesty Clauses were never included at the beginning so you shouldn't really expect them to be implemented

Good. All the amnesties would be used in a sim league instantly.

@new Orleans, not necessarily true. Not every team has a bad contract they have to get rid of. And tagged with an expiration date, Some teams would have almost no use for it - off the top of my head, who would you expect OKC and Memphis to throw off?
