Dynasty Five's
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER 2015
STEPH CURRY
Golden State Warriors
GM: Chris Mullin
This year's Dynasty Five Most Valuable Player Award goes to Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors!
Last year both Steph and Warriors-newcomer, Dwight Howard, shared the spotlight in Golden State as they surged to the greatest season start in D5 history, going 25-0 after Dwight joined in free agency. The two superstars tussled for MVP last year in a race that was eventually won by Lebron James, possibly because noone was sure who was really The Man in Oakland.
This year however Steph rose from an uncertain 89 to a solid 93, eclipsing Dwight's contributions and allowing there to be no uncertainty in the league that the Warriors were his team as they once again stormed to a league best record, falling just 3 wins shy of their real-life NBA season record at 64W and 18L, the exact same record they finished with the season before in D5!
The Warriors led the regular season standings for the second year in a row in 2015 and now they face their biggest test yet: overcoming the defending champions, the Portland Trailblazers, who beat out Steph last year in the Western Conference Finals and advanced to overcome the Heat. So far the Warriors have claimed a 2-0 series lead as Curry continues his stellar form from the first round in which he averaged 30ppg against the Timberwolves.
Credit for the success of the Warriors must go to last season's Executive of the Year, Chris Mullin, who picked up the steal of 2013's free agency to acquire Dwight Howard, whilst also drafting real-life rookie of the year, Michael Carter-Williams. Credit must also go to the original GM of the Warriors Tim Hardaway, both GMs could have traded Curry as they went through varied fortunes over the years but both held onto not only Steph Curry but also the other splash brother, Klay Thompson, to form the nucleus we all know and love in Golden State. The retention of franchise faces is one of the primary character points, and reasons for success, of Dynasty Five and thanks must go to all the unheralded GMs who continue to build around their team's recognisable heroes!
This year was again a close race. Lebron James was obviously hot on the heels of Curry, as was the ageless Dirk Nowitzki, but huge credit must go to Anthony Davis of the Milwaukee Bucks who led his team to the top of the East as Milwaukee's young crop finally blossomed.
However this year there was one man that must be recognised as having been the driving force behind the league's most feared team. Congratulations to Stephen Curry, 2015 Dynasty Five Most Valuable Player!
