This off-season, the Houston Rockets fired their coach. And made a magnificent hire of Kenny "The Jet" Smith, while having Hakeem Olajuwon as an assistant, teaching the dream shake to the big men.
However, Charles Barkley has said in the past few months that he needs another assistant to handle the guards, mainly Derrick Rose.
For this, Charles Barkley has changed up his game plan. He isn't hiring a Houston great, but rather a Blazers great. His name is Brandon Roy, and he was once considered to be the next great guard in the league. Roy's career was cut short by devastating knee injuries.
Charles Barkley on the hire: "Brandon Roy was once one of my favorite NBA players. I feel he can work with our team and teach the young guys how to play in the league. More importantly, he can help Derrick Rose in his rehabilitation from knee injuries. Roy has been through what Derrick is going through. And he can push him. We want Derrick to be what we all know he can be. And we all believe in him. Roy will also help polish Dipo and Dion."
Many pundits have praised this hire, calling it, "the biggest move for the Rockets this off-season," and another said, "Brandon Roy was once a great player, he will be a great coach."
