Salt Lake City In a press conference on Sunday, the Utah Jazz announced that NBA Hall of Famer John Stockton will be taking over the duties of head coach. Stockton, who spent 19 seasons as a point guard with the Jazz, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team. Stockton holds the NBA record for both assists and steals, and was a 10-time All-Star selection. The new coach was also a member of the 1992 Olympic Gold Medal "Dream Team." In a press conference held early this morning, Stockton released this official statement: "I'm really excited to be here. I love this organization and I love this city. I'm humbled by the opportunity and look forward to growing with the team." While Stockton may bring a wealth of playing experience with him, this is his first time ever coaching basketball, leaving many to speculate on the merits of the hire. The Utah Jazz are undoubtedly in a rebuilding mode, meaning Stockton's work will be cut out for him. Multiple sources are confirming that in his first move as coach, John Stockton has tapped Dennis Schroeder to take over the starting Point Guard spot from Ish Smith. Stockton, a former point guard himself, is fond of Schroeder's game and likes his potential for growth. Schroeder joined the Jazz last month in a trade that sent Jeff Green to Philadelphia. Schroeder, a 20 year-old from Germany, will be making his first NBA start tomorrow.
