For a long time, the Dynasty 5 and Dynasty 6 leagues have been the epitome of NBA simulation leagues. Today I am happy to officially unveil the newest league to join the elite ranks: Dynasty 7!
Now before people dismiss the idea, Dynasty 7 is a league that is affiliated with D5 and D6, but with a different format and engine all together. The premise is this: users create their own players.
Simple enough right? Players are given limited stat points to spread around different stats such as inside scoring, passing, post defense, defensive rebounding, and strength. With these stats, the players are made and they are put on one of the 6 teams. Here are the temporary team logos along with the official team names (some stay true to the D5/D6 expansion teams, as Ian has advised).
In the Northern Conference we have: AND1 Assassins, Jordan Brand Thundercats, and Li Ning Tiger Sharks!
Down in the Southern Conference there is: Under Armour Pirates, Nike Stallions, and Adidas Dragons!
Currently Jordan Brand Thundercats, Li Ning Tiger Sharks, Under Armour Pirates, and Nike Stallions are currently looking for General Managers.
That brings us to the second fundamental difference between a NBA simulation league and a Player Simulation League: General Managers and Player Agents.
General Managers are in charge of drafting, scouting, and leading their respective teams to the D7 championships! They able to create 2 players as well.
Player Agents (anyone who is not a General Manager) is able to create up to 3 players.
Anyone who owns a player (both GMs and PAs) can negotiate their contracts to different teams. Do you want to GM a team and draft your own players? You can. Do you want to split up your players and have each of them play in a different conference? You can. You want to just manage one player and focus on upgrading him? You can. The choice is yours.
What kind of player do you want to create? You can be a defensive stopper, quick point guard, athletic swingman, rebounding machine, etc etc. Also what type of atmosphere do you want to create for your player? Is he going go for the big cash (thus earning more points every season) or will he take a pay cut to join a better team? Maybe you want to pair your player up with a friends team? Create a strategy and a type of team that you feel will win it all? Again, so many choices and the freedom is what helps create a friendly, but hyper competitive environment for all who wants to join in all the fun!
The main way to upgrade your players is how well they perform in games. Other ways to earn points to upgrades is to write up articles (such as this one), making graphics for the league, helping the Commissioner with official League Requests. Earning awards such as winning the Slam Dunk Contest, becoming an All-Star, earning League MVP or a place on the 1st All-D7 Team can all earn points to help your player(s) grow!
So join the new family! Welcome to Dynasty 7!
