The Charlotte Bobcats have now officially become the Charlotte Hornets!
The rebranding movement started taking hold once New Orleans changed their franchise name to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Along with this change comes another fresh start for Charlotte, the hiring of newly inducted GM, James Kay! With a total of seven draft picks in the deep 2014 draft, as well as young talent in Reggie Jackson, Nerlens Noel, Khris Middleton and Bismack Biyombo, Charlotte hopes that the rebuilding effort has lead the organization to a bright future.
The Hornets recently drafted Nerlens Noel with the 3rd pick of the 2013 NBA Draft. Noel was projected by many to be the first pick, but sources speculate that his injury made teams wary. A front-court of Noel and Biyombo could be intimidating defensively, however, the Hornets will be looking to add an offensive threat in the 4 or 5 during the next off-season.
When asked about his team's plans for the future, GM Kay replied,
The Hornets made a controversial trade early in the most recent off-season, sending away Kemba Walker and Thomas Robinson for Reggie Jackson, Tristan Thompson and two 1st Round 2014 Draft picks. Declining to resign Thompson this off-season, the Hornets will have 40 million in cap space next year and will surely be looking to sign some big names to complete their re-branding efforts.
So far the trade has looked well for the Hornets, as the prospects to enter the 2014 Draft are being touted as some of the next big names. Reggie Jackson has also flourished, posting per-36 numbers almost identical to Kemba's:
Hopefully the patient rebuilding efforts pay off and Charlotte becomes one of the bigger threats in the league!

James Kay says, "We have a solid group of young prospects and certified role players. The previous GM was very dedicated to the rebuilding process, and I'm lucky to have been placed in a position with such an opportune future."

"Hopefully we're able to develop our young guys into some real talent - they've all got the potential. We've just got to wait and see if they'll get there. "
When asked about his team's plans for the future, GM Kay replied,
"Well, we're gonna have to wait until the next off-season to make any serious moves. I'm hoping that players will start to see the Hornets as a worthwhile destination, the organization has really made fantastic efforts to turn itself around. I think I'm up to the task of leading us in the right direction from here on out."
