Since I took over in Golden State I've had 2 main priorities. 1st priority was dealing Andrea Bargnani and the 2nd was moving Arron Afflalo. As most of the league knows I've been trying to move Afflalo for quite some time.
Arron Afflalo's contract makes him unappealing to majority of the GMs in this league. I would know because I've tried to deal him to almost every team in the league. I like Afflalo as a player but his natural position is SG and I have Klay Thompson, so fiscally is doesn't make sense to have a backup SG costing me so much money.
The move clears his contract for me which will allow me the ability to use that money to try and sign a legit starting SF via free agency. It will also help in freeing up more money to re-sign Al Jefferson if needed.
LA has more need for him as they gear up for the Playoffs and he will give them tremendous depth while basically not giving up any major pieces.
I look at this deal as Afflalo for Jordan Hamilton basically. It has taken an almost herculean effort on my part to find a deal that allows me to move Afflalo without having to move any of my core players.
Hopefully my explanation for making this trade is sufficient, but I will gladly go into more detail if necessary.
Deal works under the 125% rule. I accept
