30 – LA Clippers (-2) Mike Krzyzewski (8-48) (1-12)
The Los Angeles Clippers dropped down to last place in this month, wait a minute. Who wrote this? It wasn’t me! Why isn’t Detroit last? What? The Clippers have the worst record in the league and went 1-12 this month?! But they have Carmelo, Tony Parker, Greg Monroe, Calderon, Kenneth Faried… How can they possibly be bad?
Oh, so we’re not in 2015 anymore? Ok that explains it.
29 – Detroit Pistons (+1) Tom Izzo (9-47) (2-11)
I don’t care what people say, the Pistons are the biggest winners of the month after rising from the ashes to an incredible 29th spot in our Power Rankings, the first time in the history they’re not last.
Maybe Ayton should win ROY just because of that.
28 – Brooklyn Nets (+1) Andrei Kirilenko (11-45) (2-11)
Devin Booker has been very public on how he feels about losing, problem is the Nets have only 3 and half players that would play on others team in D5.
Fun fact, the Nets are paying more for players to stay at home, than for players who are on their actual roster. Tanking? Never heard that word in my life.
27 – Dallas Mavericks (0) Danny Longley (11-45) (2-11)
Dirk’s retirement run continues or at least that’s what we think. But what if that isn’t the truth, what if he returns for another year? What if wants to leave after a good season? Will Dirk have to play up until his 70’s? Probably not. All he needs to do is wait for Reggie Jackson contract to expire.
26 – Phoenix Suns (-2) Jared Montini (13-42) (2-8)
After an amazing month of January where they went 6-10, the Suns returned to their usual form winning only 2 games. The Suns have been of the most active teams on the market after the arrival of their Assistant GM Amare Stoudemire , expect them to keep active until the trade deadline.
25 – New Orleans Pelicans (0) Brian Scalabrine (17-39) (2-11)
With Jaren Jackson Jr. out and with a drop in Hayward stats, the Pelicans struggled in February, going 2-11. For the last 2 months Pelicans have gone 5-23, a bottom 3 record for these months.
But the Pelicans are in a very similar situation to Brooklyn, and despite not being as effective in their tanking project, they at least own both their pick and Washington’s. That gives them a 13% shot at the 1st pick and an over 50% chance of at least seeing one of their picks move into the Top 4.
24 – Atlanta Hawks (+2) Jay Z (15-40) (4-8)
For the 2nd year in a row Jay Z won the award for unluckiest GM. But why? If last year’s 2 picks flopped, he had only himself to blame. But one of them this year is showing All-Star potential this year, and he also has a nice trade piece in Mirotic, as well as players who have been surprising people in Payton and Zizic. The Hawks are far from being unlucky, and their future is starting to take shape around Fox.
23 – Philadelphia 76ers (-2) Allen Iverson (20-36) (2-9)
Despite being less talented than some teams below them both in the Power Rankings and in the standings, the 76’rs make up for it in hard work. The mystery now is how the team will react with their star player, Malcolm Brogdon, out. So far, not so good, going 2-9 in the month of February. Being one of the 8th teams to win 3 games or less this month.
22 – Washington Wizards (+1) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (18-37) (5-7)
Maybe this month is the beginning of bigger things for the Wizards who have been doing everything they can to win as most games as possible this season despite knowing they weren’t making the playoffs this year. Despite trading for mostly vets on big contracts, they now have a young PG/C combo for the future in Russel and Adebayo. Plus, they have other young players in Larry Nance, Isaac and Robert Williams who are still full of potential.
21 – Portland Trail Blazers (-3) Jerry West (23-33) (3-10)
The Blazers are in the process of finding a new GM for the team that I already stated to be the team in the worst position in the league, not just for the present, but also for the future.
There’s not a lot to talk about them until the smoke clears out and we’ll be able to see what their new GM will have in store for them.
