75 Patrick Patterson ($5,945,138 (18-19)) 2022 LAC 2nd rounder
Trade percentage (outgoing): 99% New 2018-2019 total salary: $119,887,824
FOR
77 Cody Zeller ($6,000,000 (18-19); $6,000,000 (19-20); $6,000,000 (20-21))
Trade percentage (outgoing): 101% New 2018-2019 total salary: $75,315,576
Accepted by Spurs. I have gotten murdered up front consistently on the boards this season, and while Zeller isn’t the worlds greatest rebounder, at 7’0” (and young at 26) with more prowess in that department than Patterson— and signed for two more years at a very reasonable rate— this is a good forward looking deal for my team. Losing a future 2nd rounder in the potential double draft isn’t great, but 2022 is a long way off and I would rather strike on a deal like this vs. clutching the future 2nds like they’re gold.

I accept
Zeller is a really nice young player and on an amazing contract but with Kristaps officially announcing he is out for the season, and with Booker doing an excellent job of leading the tank, I didn't want to mess up my lineup with Zeller returning from injury soon.

Well. I guess this isn't "bad" for either team but I also think it's clearly better for the Nets.
Nets receives: cap space improved odds on tanking AND a 2nd round pick in a possibly stacked class.
Spurs receives: Just an ok player on a 3 year deal that is probably a fair deal.
IMO the 2nd probably wasn't needed, but it's not in the reject pile either. Even without the 2nd I'd prefer the Nets side. Wish I had a buddy in the league...

BKN definitely wins, it's not like Zeller is the answer to the Spurs frontcourt troubles, as if that's a thing, but it's not bad enough to reject. I accept.

Is a 77 rated, 26 year-old solid center (who is the undisputed starter in real-life), on a $6m per year deal, really not worth a 2nd round pick to you guys?
What is a 2nd rounder worth then? Ian would you trade Jaylen Brown for a 2nd? Walt, would you trade Taurean Prince for a 2nd?
You guys are acting like a 2nd round pick should be worth an 80 rated guy, which is pretty absurd. And you're also acting like 6m per year is a bad contract for Zeller, when it's literally less than 6% of the cap.

From my perspective, a 26 yr old PF/C who is signed to a very reasonable deal is better than a 30 yr PF who is expiring— I get the points on the 2nd rounder, but LAC’s capsheet after the 2021 season will be blank except for a handful of guys. His team likely will improve significantly, and for me, the 2021 2nd I hold from LAC is more valuable given I have no picks in that draft plus LAC still will have $98 MM combined to Tony Parker, Carmelo Anthony, and Kenneth Faried during that 2020-2021 season.

Both me and Walt accepted the deal, so I don't think we're saying any of that's the case, but for me personally it's just that your team pretty clearly wins this deal since a guy rated 77 isn't likely to make much of a difference in the Western Conf Standings or anything. edit: it's obviously not enough to reject though, so I accept

A 2nd is weighted in value for a team that either needs players or will be tanking.

You're also improving your odds in the draft and also clearing out cap. It's a win-win-win for you and a win-hope that 2nd rounder doesn't hit for George. As I said, it's not in reject realm, but let's look at the entirety of the deal and be honest about it. That's all.

D5 so overvalues cap space and draft picks. Cap space is there to be spent, and spending $6 mil on Cody Zeller is solid value. It's especially weird because once we get to free agency everyone seems so desperate to overpay players. Then the draft picks... draft picks become players... and most players suck. Therefore most draft picks suck.
I accept. Solid trade for the Spurs.
