how can two 2nds being swapped dumb Because they’re not the same two seconds. One is 2020, the other is present day. You’d rather have money now than money later. In all likelihood, the player taken with this years second will be figured out by the time the other second comes to fruition. You should much rather have picks now than next year or the future so you know what is what. That being said, there’s onviouslu discrepancy when the picks aren’t projected to be near each other in possible value, I.e. you wouldn’t trade a 2022 first for a second this year. But because they are “close” in value, since they are both second rounders, you should want them now than in the future. Knowing what a pick is and becomes is most of the battle. That’s what this is, a sophisticated guessing game. If you guess right, and you know it earlier than others, you can cash in on that value sooner, either in the win column or a trade. Whereas no one knows what that 2020 will be for at least 2 years, meaning you can’t reap the benefits of what may be a better pick in the order.

how can two 2nds being swapped dumb To put it very simply, give me $100 now and I’ll give you $100 two years from now. For those that are willing to move this years seconds for future seconds, my DMs are open and will do it all day.

You said the same thing last year but I don't like that take. Assumimg whoever trades for the later pick stays around awhile,it could be better for him to get the 2020 2nd instead of 2018. Some draft classes are better than others so waiting could be better

Except for one small fact - it's more like 50 cents now for 50 cents two years from now. If this were a 1st for a 1st with comparable value, then I'd be more inclined to agree with your line of thinking.

Btw I accept this trade bc I have 3 2nd round picks this year and Im not going to have roster space to sign them all.

Btw I accept this trade bc I have 3 2nd round picks this year and Im not going to have roster space to sign them all. And while I agree with Charles' general line of thought, there are other factors to consider. If the 2nd this year is going to end up un-signable because of roster space, spreading it out to another year makes plenty of sense. If the counterargument to that is, just trade the guy you draft this year...you proooobably are only going to get a 2nd for them, if anything, because most other teams are going to have tight rosters too. Unless you strike gold, but he has other picks with which to strike gold.
