Interesting trade. If you are Charles, the #1 thing you have to be thinking about is re-signing Giannis. This is clearly a calculated move by the Rockets to try to give Giannis another reason to return. Kemba is only 27 and is in his prime so not necessarily a bad contract, but is possibly a bit overrated at 85 with his low efficiency, poor defense, and not-that-many assists for a point guard. He gives the Rockets a "big 3" of Kemba - Giannis - Love, with some decent surrounding roleplayers in Gordon and Bazemore.
However, this also cap locks the Rockets even worse than before. Charles will now be paying almost $70m next season between just Kemba and Love alone, and also has Gordon making $15m. He is over the cap before he even offers a contract to Giannis. Assuming he does manage to re-sign Giannis, the team will have very little flexibility with 3 max contracts on the books, 2 of which are for guys who aren't really going to win you a championship and are not in the same "title window" as Giannis. He also has no young talent really on the roster after this, although he does own two non-lottery picks this season. Will a future of Love and Kemba be enough to retain Giannis?
From the Lakers perspective, this trade makes sense to me. TJ Warren is a roleplayer, but he is decent and is still on his rookie deal. Plus the Lakers get a 1st rounder out of it. It sucks to take on Corey Joseph's contract, but $11m is a lot more reasonable than Kemba's 30m. I think Mark Price can be happy swapping out the max contracts of Valanciunas, Barnes, and Kemba for the rookie deals of Hood and Warren, as well as picking up a 1st along the way. If the Lakers can manage to move Dragic to clear cap space (perhaps by packaging him with the LAC 1st?) then they would actually be a very attractive landing spot for a free agent this summer.

Makes sense for Charles. Kemba is still really good. Mark Price has done an awesome job turning around the Lakers. Their future is brighter than I could've imagined just weeks ago

No way Giannis stays in Houston now, pretty much solidifies then as a middle-of-the-road playoff team

No way Giannis stays in Houston now, pretty much solidifies then as a middle-of-the-road playoff team Giannis is very loyal to the Bucks IRL, I'm sure Chuck's stockpiling news articles saying so I accept the trade, good synopsis by Josh.

I really like Kemba, but he isn't going to be on this team when it competes again. Kemba is a great point guard and will do great for the Rockets.
I really like Warren. He has a bright future. I think he will benefit in real life if the Suns stop tanking, which I think they will after this season. If Warren was playing in a bigger city people would talk about him like they do about other young players.
This draft is stacked and I want as many picks in this draft as possible. The draft pick was a big deal for me.
I also like Corey Joseph. He's a young player that's shown he can play big in big games. He's going to be a rotation player on my team throughout his contract.
I'm not a huge fan of Chandler, but we need his salary. He can still be a starting center.
I'll miss Kemba, but it's a move I had to make. This team was cap strapped with few draft picks when I took over. They were also one of the worst teams in the league despite the fact they weren't tanking. This move puts my team back on the right track. I accept.

I accept. Warren and a mid-1st plus a solid player in Joseph and then Chandler's contract is at least done after next year. All told, pretty solid deal both ways.
Kemba is a good piece to build around. A little worried for Charles that he doesn't have a super deep / young team and now deals away a pick and a young player, but I really think Giannis stays at least for 3-4 more years on a max this off-season.

This trade likely depends on two things:
Does TJ Warren ever develop a three point shot?
How will Kemba fair in the coming years likely on a new team?
My cap situation pre-trade was already messed up to the point where I couldn’t sign anyone worthwhile as a third star without dumping salary.
The only young talent I was going to be able to bring in, and realistically keep long term, was with the three picks this year. I’ve looked around at trading them for younger players further along, and I haven’t been able to swing anything. And after this trade I still have 2 picks.
TJ Warren is hard to let go, I really think he turns out to be a good player but grabbing a major third piece is something I needed to do. It helps that it is at a PG spot. While Giannis has shown he is more than capable of playing that position in the sim, I don’t know if it is where he is best utilized.
This trade allows me to swap in Bazemore, a much more capable defender, at the three.
Cory Joseph was someone I thought would make an impact this season and in the future but with Darren Collison not bowing out in Indiana and Oladipo taking charge, I don’t know if he gets a real shot absent injury.
