Utah Jazz Open The Utah Jazz are looking for a new GM!
Hassan Whiteside - Rondae Hollis-Jefferson - Jayson Tatum - Justise Winslow - Markelle Fultz Recently drafted by the Jazz, Jayson Tatum will be a core component of the team's future! What are we looking for in a Jazz GM? Engagement and Activity
Someone who can show they will be an active member of Dynasty Five for a long time, to make the Jazz their own and build a great dynasty and to understand that it will be a job that will take many years! We want someone who wants to become part of the semi-roleplaying atmosphere of being a real NBA GM here at D5, who gets involved in rating players, day-to-day discussion and even posts media centre articles such as rankings, jersey switches, analytics, scouting reports or stories.
Knowledge
The Jazz roster is young and full of potential for future successes! You will have to decide whether to re-sign long-term Jazz veteran Hassan Whiteside this upcoming off season or trade him to help the Jazz rebuild. Markelle Fultz is a question mark - are you patient enough to wait until he comes back from injury? It's never wise to trade away a player when their value is so low, especially with the potential to be so high! The Jazz are currently 6th from bottom in the standings so you'll need to scout this year's rookie crop! Don't be afraid to ask questions if you're not sure how the league functions!
Previous GM: Billy King resigned after 3 years service How to Apply ***Reply to this thread to introduce yourself***
Explain your experience with NBA basketball, which team you support, where you live etc. Possibly explain your plans for the Jazz if you were to take over as GM. Choose a GM name that's not been taken already Keep active as outlined above
As a GM Candidate you are allowed to negotiate and post trades in the Trade Section on behalf of the Jazz to show you're up to the job! If you're successful and are given the job as Jazz GM those trades will still be allowed to pass.
Also have a read of What is Dynasty Five? After a maximum of one month the Hiring Committee will meet to decide who gets hired for the job! note: even if you miss out on this team, showing you're a committed, hard working GM will put you first in line for any future team openings and ahead of everyone else on the waiting list.

Hi everyone, I have been GM in D720 for few season. Looking for a second league and a team to manage. Following NBA more or less since 1998. Last years very actively. Tim Duncan and Spurs have been favorites always. Originally from Finland.
Plan for Jazz: I would have to see what kind of deals are out there, but probably would trade Whiteside. Also might try to swap Fultz for another 2017 rookie(s) (there are couple of underrated guys I really like) or a high pick in upcoming draft. It all depends
I guess since I can't stay as Theodore Duncan, I would like to change my name to a Jazz legend Greg Ostertag

Welcome Arvydas Sabonis! I've edited your profile so you're a 'Candidate', like I will all the others who post here. At most this process will last until March 28th, but it's more likely to be over before that date. Any questions just ask!

It can be your own name or any person who could realistically be a NBA GM. Don't pick a name that's already been taken. Good luck!

Hi everyone, I just wanna say that I am no longer interested in the Lakers job. This job is more fitting. I have a feeling Mr. Noble already knows this, but I've been following the trail blazers since my childhood. I'm a huge fan of the NBA, and also soccer, as my favorite soccer team is Bayern Munich. I've always been in love with the idea of managing a basketball in a league that is this realistic. I also get to watch basketball games very often as I am a University of Oregon student and I love the basketball team. I even met Dillon Brooks and Troy Brown Junior. Anyways, enough of my personal life. Let's talk about what I'd do with the Utah Jazz. The main premise of my scheme would be to tank the rest of the season and potentially trade Whiteside on draft day. On the day of the draft I'd probably draft Wendell Carter Jr. or Mo Bamba or another center who has decent potential. I hope you consider my application.

Welcome back Elton Brand! I like that you already know some of next year's rookie crop! Utah's GM definitely needs to scout this year! I've edited your profile so you're a candidate! Unlike the Lakers application, this time you can propose and post trades with other teams. If you're successful in the process those trades will be passed.

Post by George Gervin on Feb 28, 2018 23:50:44 GMT
I’d like to throw my hat in the ring as well for the Jazz GM position. I see a team, much like the one where I serve as the Assistant GM, with solid young building blocks that require a steady hand, some good ancillary pieces, and one final building block at either PG or C (depending on draft availability) to round out the team. Things I really like about this team:
- Despite Fultz injury concerns, he was a 23 ppg/6 apg guy as a young freshman on a team at U Dub where everyone knew he was the guy, and he put up very respectable shooting percentages despite the defensive attention. He is a guy, if right, who has a— at highest ceiling possible— a prime Manu Ginoboli/James Harden hybrid who can drive to the hole at will and destroy you 1 on 1 with crafty dribbles, up fakes and other moves. He’s a piece that I would hold onto unless blown away with an offer. - Jayson Tatum, Justice Winslow, and RHJ all are guys who, as interchangeable 6’7 to 6’9 types, are perfect for the future direction of constant defensive switching and play making wings. Of those Tatum is by far the most promising, but I’m not willing to concede Winslow at such a young age won’t come around and develop a serviceable jump shot - Zach Collins who, I admit, I was not a fan of at Gonzaga and thought he needed the Sabonis, second year as the Man to develop more, is a good long term piece as a potential stretch 5 who is not a slouch defender. He to me is either a rotational big if the draft ends up with a Ayton or Marvin Bagley type, or he is a solid 14/10 Steven Adams type presence with less physicality and more shooting potential - Denzel Valentine as a homeless mans Draymond Green based on his career at MSU is an ideal bench guy to come in and be the glue for the team
Things I’d improve as the Jazz GM:
- Whiteside, while a really good player, is going to be far past his prime when the rest of this squad jells together. Given that timing, one of the first orders of business I’d do as GM is trade him for a veteran PG and pick, if possible, to steady the ship. This roster is in desperate need of a veteran PG to who can defend, get guys involved, and not detract from shots for the main guys. An ideal player would be a Mike Conley, which for Whiteside and one of the redundant young guys (Stone or Zubac comes to mind) would be a good pickup. - Another guard or two would be necessary long term to balance out the roster skewed towards wings and bigs— it is not realistic with the great PGs out there to rely on just wings and bigs alone - Draft wise, I am a huge junkie. I have been a huge NBAdraft.net and draftexpress fan going back to college, and I enjoy the draft process a lot. Looking at this roster, if the first rounder was in the top 8 picks, I think some guys who would be promising for the Jazz squad include Mo Bamba as a rim protector who has shooting touch and can play next to the existing guys, Jaren Jackson as a very promising stretch 4/5 who is a plus defender, or Collin Sexton (one of my favorites in this upcoming class) as a throwback, downhill PG who is a tremendous on ball defender. If the Jazz won the draft lottery, I would plug Ayton in the middle and have that anchor to pair with Fultz and Tatum.
I think the most important thing with this squad is to try not to over tinker with the roster; the core is very young, the main talents are all 24 and younger, and some veterans— particularly at guard and at center (excluding Tarick Black, who is a great glue big)— would go a long way to balancing the roster and letting them come together. I am also a firm believer in accumulating vs. selling off draft picks— as Sam Hinkie demonstrated, if you have more chances, the more likely some will pan out.
As a Wake Forest alum, I’ve had the joy of watching one stud squad featuring Al Aminu and a host of other guys followed by the dismay of losing all but one road ACC game in a two year stretch. At Wake, basketball is king, and I even had the chance to meet and chat with the Admiral himself when his son Corey was deciding between Wake and Norte Dame for football. Im also in a long running (5 years and counting) fantasy basketball league which my Nets GM partner can attest I try to go for a balanced approach to roster construction. In the NBA, I tend to follow the Hornets as they were the closest team in college and I moved to Charlotte after graduating. They are in a sad state with their cap situation and Michael Jordan’s inability to avoid selecting at least one UNC player it seems every draft...even when they’re not the best guy for the team.
Anyways, really looking forward, regardless of the decision, to participate in the league, as I’ve heard great things from the Nets GM about it.

Four quality candidates.. Maybe we can ask them to make a D5 power ranking of at least one of the conference, with quick in-depth reasoning for each? That way, we can see how wide and deep is their NBA knowledge

On a mobile you'll need to visit our Rosters page, scroll down to the bottom right of the page and click 'Desktop View'. Alternatively you could use the direct link but I find it a bit harder to navigate.

the features of this league, and it is one of the most detailed sports-related leagues I've ever had the honor to participate in. It makes me glad just to know that I can be a part of this community. As for any ways you can help me, there are two things on my mind. Can we sign free agents in the way that we can make trades? So if we sign a free agent he'll be a free agent until the candidate that signed him is elected GM and then he'd become a player on the team. Also, can we improve the Utah Jazz team thread? It's pretty desolate, and I'd love to create a conceptual depth chart for the Utah Jazz. EDIT: Formating is weird. And so is quoting.
