As Whiteside packs his bags for Memphis, Billy realizes his time, too, has come.
Not really interested in owning a team that doesn't include my favorite player, or being in a league where they think Whiteside doesn't love me as much as I love them.
I'll be following Whiteside to Memphis, no longer as his GM, but as his lover.
Peace out.

come on Billy, we all get a little too passionate and caught up in the moment in this league sometimes. Everyone has strong opinions on everything, myself certainly not excluded, and sometimes you just have to block other GMs out and do trades and deals that make you happy. Why not at least try your luck with Whiteside this summer? It is better than just shipping him out for Bertrans and leaving behind a team you've spent years building.

Also like I said in PM, who else is going to realistically compete with you to re-sign Whiteside? Whiteside's in the 7-9 year bracket of max contracts, which currently start at $29,729,900. If I were a PA I'm not sure I'd give him the full max, I might knock it down a few million to make it a bit more realistic, but assuming $29m is his starting year salary you've got these teams currently in contention: Just as bad / worse than your team, don't show the love to Whiteside:ATL, IND, NOP, PHI Just as good / better than your team, already have too many big-men:BOS, MEM The only real threat to steal Whiteside:POR When I said in PM ... If a better team comes for him it's unlikely he stays... That was without any in-depth analysis and was just an off-the-cuff remark. If all you're competing with is one other team, and you're almost as good as them anyway, fuck it, it's a million miles from a forgone conclusion.

This is what off seasons like the last two years will to do good gms. BK didn't even wanna spend the effort and energy to be disappointed in the end bc he knows that even if his team is the best destination for whiteside, it's not a given he will end up in Utah.

Still one of the most obvious resigns ever though. He's being a little bitch. There is no better team that both can afford to sign him and has a space open for him while offering wildly different prospects for team success.

What the hell is going on?
On one hand, it would be really bad for D5 to lose Billy as a GM.
On the other hand, we can't really allow rage-quitting as a negotiating tactic, nor can we have some kind of Favourite Player Exception where a team can keep a player against all external factors.
It's not even a lock for Whiteside to leave either. He could very easily re-sign. He's a "gettable" free agent, as we say, but that doesn't necessarily mean much. Sometimes guys like that leave (Kawhi Leonard) and sometimes they don't (Damian Lillard).

I found it almost impossible he left. I've seen Billy's FA offers they pretty good. Given every other team doesn't need a center or if they do they can't afford it. His team isn't vastly worse than any of the others that would potentially bother to sign him. Plus Whiteside resigned with a meh team in Miami in real life I mean I just wrote his offer for him in 12 seconds. I don't want him to leave but he's having his blowup like 2 months too soon on a maybe that is based off some BS PM someone sent him.

Yeah but he isn't just someone though. If it came from you, I would guarantee he wouldn't be reacting this way.

Even if Ian said that.. He will still not have any say about the signing of Whiteside, unless he is his Player agent in the offseason.

I'm going to stop feeling bad now if IRL mates (Spike Lee and BK) want to leave because they don't care anymore, fair enough, you need to have enthusiasm to keep going

I just wanted to thank most everyone here for their friendship the past few years. I moved to Charlotte and had no one to talk to, and a few days later I joined D5 and found fellowship that would keep me busy for many years, and expand my love of the NBA. As you all well know, Whiteside was my first, and only, love, and I intended to go down with him to the end. Holding him despite from the fact that he single-handedly won me games to keep me from the #1 seed year after year. It is with great dissapointment that I relinquish the role as GM. I can't imagine owning a team here that doesn't include Whiteside, and after I posted that trade block, any chance I had at re-signing him was ruined, while simultaneously netting me jack shit in the trade market. It's just too long of a haul to haul without my favorite dude. This is neither a negotiating tactic, nor is it an condemnation on this league or the way it is ran. Ian is, by far, the best commissioner of any type of league (sims, sports, or otherwise) that I have ever been in, and somehow he manages to get better each and every day.
Sorry for the abrupt end, and sorry for my trade partners who were left hanging with pending trades by a resigning GM. Except for Jeremiah, you can go fuck yourself.

Except for Jeremiah, you can go fuck yourself. BK I'm going to miss you buddy. One of the most active and dedicated GMs in the league. I'm sorry this Whiteside stuff stirred shit up and I'm sorry you lost interest. You've left a solid team for the next GM. Even though you can be an arse I was a big fan, I love seeing all the semi-hilarious, semi-infuriating shitstorms that kick off here. Any time you want to come back just make a new account.
