D5 Analytics
#4 - Contract Value
For this analytic, I decided to switch it up a bit from the number-heavy correlations to a post that is more light and fun. In this episode, I determine which D5 players have the best and worst contracts, as compared to their production levels in D5. To do this, I first took updated player statistics and multiplied out per-game statistics by the Draft Kings fantasy values. Unfortunately I could not include the 3p made, double-double, or triple-double point values as those are not tracked in D5. However, I utilized all other Draft Kings scoring figures to determine who in D5 would be the top per-game fantasy players.
If D5 stats were the real NBA, these would be the best fantasy players:
Once I knew who the best D5 fantasy players were, I added 2017/18 D5 contracts into my workbook and divided each player's salary by 82 to determine a per-game salary. Then, I took the per-game salary and divided it by the per-game fantasy points. This result shows exactly how much each GM is paying a player to score exactly one fantasy point, which I call Contract Value. Here are the findings:
DNP:
As a caveat, the obvious worst-value players are the injured ones. Mike Conley is getting paid 31m and hasn't played a game in D5. The same goes for Paul Millsap (25m), Gordon Hayward (21m), Joakim Noah (18.5m), and Nikola Mirotic (17m). Mirotic actually isn't injured but Jay Z has kept him in IR anyway, I'm guessing as a tanking measure. I have not included injured players in the rest of this post as they skew the results.
High-Paid Bench Guys:
The most costly active player in D5 (by an alarming amount) is Marvin Williams. Despite being fully healthy, Marvin has played just 22 minutes for the entire season in D5, and is costing Shane Battier a ridiculous 135k for every fantasy point he scores. In fact, the second most costly player is also on the Bulls, with Andrew Bogut costing 75k per fantasy point. If you thought things couldn't get worse for the Bulls, they also own Ty Lawson, who is the 19th worst value in D5 at 19k per fantasy point.
The entire top 20 of worst contract value guys is actually entirely comprised of bench players. These 20 players do not have even one start among them:

Worst Value Starters:
As for starters, the worst-value starter in D5 is James Kay 's Serge Ibaka, at approximately 14k per fantasy point. Serge is followed by some of the usual suspects: Derrick Rose (13k), Greg Monroe (13k), Jae Crowder (13k), and Chandler Parsons (12k).
Mike Krzyzewski has two players (Danny Green and Greg Monroe) on this list. He also has Kenneth Faried, who was the 3rd worst bench player value. Ouch.

Best Value Players:
Flipping the script, the best value player in D5 is Kyle Kuzma on Jared Montini 's Suns. Kuzma costs only 222 per fantasy point, making him the most bang-for-your-buck guy in D5. In case anyone is counting, that makes Kuzma 606 times more valuable than Marvin Williams.
Lowest Cost per Fantasy Point
Most Average Player Award:
The average cost per point in D5 is about 6.5k, which is also the exact output that Emmanuel Mudiay would give you. That means that Chauncey Billups 's Mudiay is the most average value player in D5. Congrats, I guess.
