Courtney Lee - Dallas MavericksCourtney Lee has decided to return to Dallas for the following contract:
Year 1: $6,160,500
Year 2: $5,700,500
Year 3: $5,250,500
(decreases of 7.5% of first-year salary)
Courtney has played for Danny Longley and the Mavs for many years, and wants to give it one more run while Dirk is still in town. Danny offered to Courtney immediately at the start of free agency, being very blunt about his team situation and how Courtney fits in. Courtney is excited to have the potential to start, and even more excited to mentor and help the younger Mavs develop and transition into a post-Dirk era. We do understand that at age 31 some of you might think that Lee should have signed with a contender to try to win a title; however, Dallas has been loyal and Lee is happy to ride off into the sunset with Dirk and the Mavericks.
We were originally waiting to post in order to maximize the cap space of DAL, but I am posting this now as it seems Ian is not adding BRs signings to count against the cap until after FA is over.
