I'm 99% sure the rule is that you get autopicked 5 picks after your pick. Which gives a penalty, but also a floor to the penalty. But also a chance to stop by and actually get the guy you want. When did that stop being the rule? Isn't it in the OP? Edit: Yep, it's still there. Well the wording is "up to" 5 spots lower. So it doesn't necessarily have to be that exactly. Sometimes that's not even a penalty though. The guy 5 spots down could be better than the people that were draft before him. I always assumed the "up to" clause was for picks near the end of the round or the end of the draft. But I guess I was wrong.

Really wanted Patton but given that he is going to be sitting behind KAT for the foreseeable future and we need a shooter more than a big man...
NYK select Luke Kennard with pick 19.

Good picks by Hana and Montini back to back. I think Ferguson and White are both the better late 1st round gambles. Giles shouldn't have even been drafted.

He would have been a late lottery pick if he ended up going to Arizona

You just need him to add some weight so he can get around screens and play though contact and you have an amazing 3-D wing. Talking to a few Aussie Bball fans they told me that the coach was using him in crunch time defensive sets. He wasn't playing a lot but earning the trust of a professional basketball coach in high intensity situations is not something most intrnational prospects can say.

He's small and gets pushed around but he fights like hell. If he buffs up a little bit he'll be straight. Hes 6"7 so he has the height, he just needs some strength

Giles shouldn't be drafted?
We can agree to disagree but that comment is ridiculous.
Have you closely followed the injuries and subsequent recoveries specifically or are you making that statement because he has had multiple knee injuries and that must mean he is done? Remember less than 2 years ago he was considered to be in the running for the #1 pick overall.
I admit that it is a high risk reward pick but to say he shouldn't be drafted seems silly.

With the 23rd pick in the 2017 draft the Denver Nuggets select: Josh Hart - SG - Villanova

I hope I don't regret passing on Justin Patton, because I like him a lot and I'm surprised he's here, but Josh Hart has been my #1 sleeper pick for a long time. I have to take him while he's still on the board. Hanamichi Sakuragi on the clock

Remember less than 2 years ago he was considered to be in the running for the #1 pick overall. I admit that it is a high risk reward pick but to say he shouldn't be drafted seems silly. I definitely wasn't a fan of taking him high, which he was being rumored to go, but in the 20s I definitely agree with the pick. The first year back from a bad knee injury is never what a player ends up looking like. Remember the difference between sophomore and junior year Jabari? I really think both DSJ and Giles will impress based on where they were taken. Will Giles ever get it all back? Probably not, but he's got a sick offensive skill set and good instincts on defense if he isn't afraid he leg is going to break in half when he moves. Once he is confident he won't get re injured I think you will see a different Giles. Not #1 pick level athleticism, but he doesn't need much more explosion than he showed at Duke IMO, his high ceiling was always based on the fact that he was so skilled AND athletic, even with mediocre athleticism he still has more skill than most bigs in this class.
