Exactly what I was thinking today haha Lol, we could kick it up a notch. Get the lotto over with. Actually draft before the NBA. See what kind of wrinkle that adds to it.

Drafting before the NBA Draft is something I feel would benefit the GMs here who go nuts with scouting, but the real-life NBA draft order gives a framework for those GMs who don't. It's a pain though when a guy you think should be Top 5 or something, but is late-lottery on mock drafts, actually goes Top 5 and then the whole feeling you had about drafting a sleeper disappears. On the other hand it can work the other way as well of course - I feel like my picks of Jerami Grant and Montrezl Harrell fell too far in the real NBA draft and I think I'm being proved right.

I like this idea and the draft takes so long we can have the best of both worlds. The 1st round of last year's draft took 9 days and the whole draft took 17 days. Why not start the draft like 10 days before the real NBA draft? We'll approximately be done with the 1st round. Then for the 2nd round, and all the 'who the hell is that guy?' picks, we'll have seen how the NBA draft actually played out. Most people have heard of the big name prospects, and sites like draft express or whatever provide enough structure for those who aren't sure where begin. This would definitely reward the scouting of the GMs around here but not leave people lost as we push farther into the 2nd round.

I think we should consider that for some players, we learn about injuries and off court troubles days before or even the day of, sometimes in the days after, the draft.
Since we are not actual GMs, and don't have the resources to find that out ourselves, I think it's really risky to go this route.

Since we are not actual GMs, and don't have the resources to find that out ourselves, I think it's really risky to go this route. I feel like that's all part of the game of drafting. It's hard to think of a single player with serious issues that we only learned the extent of it after the fact. I guess Royce White? That's one player in the last 5+ years. I think it's a fine risk in order to allow the scouting and individual work of the GMs to be valued more. I'm currently watching Derrick White, who is one of my big sleeper picks, go from an absolute nobody when I first found him months ago, to now being listed early 2nd round on Draftexpress and have one of the fastest rising stocks around. We all have players like that, and it's good for a prospect's value to come more from what each GM thinks of them, and not fall back on where they went in the draft. It makes the whole thing more rewarding when you can get a guy under the radar like that.

Like the idea but for fairness sake, it should not be this year.

I personally wouldn't be comfortable picking a guy until I know what team IRL he's going to be on. Some teams are great at developing players while others are hell holes. It's an important part of the evaluation process for me.

It's an important part of the evaluation process for me. Agreed... I do like the idea and having to scout the prospects. That's a very fun part. I don't care what teams draft who accept for the fact that if a rookie goes to a certain team he might not get playing time with less chances to excel or being rated higher here at D5. I do agree with all sides and im cool with changes this year on next.

I'm not going to move the date guys, the draft will still start the same day as the real NBA draft.
