Brooklyn Nets Trade:77 Ishmael Smith - $1,428,076 - $1,585,164 - $1,759,532 Denver Nuggets Trade:95 James Harden - $18,742,500 - $19,679,625 - $20,663,606 - $21,696,787 75 Alex Len $2,180,820 - $2,241,064 Ish has been with me in D5 for a long time, is my favorite player, and has played a big role on my teams here. I played a pickup game with him once during my freshman year at Wake, he hit a buzzer beater that year to beat Texas in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament, and I ran into him in Vegas two summers later. He is a great guy and I couldn't be happier for his NBA Success. Needless to say, this is a tough pill to swallow, but I think it is time for me to make a smart trade for my team and send Ish on his way so he can (hopefully) win a championship here in D5. We get a player in Len who I admittedly am not a huge fan of, but he is a 23 year old center who has been getting a good bit of playtime. I'll have RFA on him next summer and we can re-assess then whether we want to pay to keep him around. We also signed Austin Rivers recently, who I think makes more sense to be running point for our team than Ish. Good luck Ish! We will sign you to a max deal farewell tour in three years once your contract is up.

I accept. This is progress ladies and gentleman, our first trade prompted by the hard cap. I'm set to be near $200 million in salary next season, and so is the hard cap. It's hard to know what kind of market Len will have as an RFA, but it's not out of the question that he'll get a $10+ million/year offer. That puts me in risk of reaching the hard cap which could majorly fuck up my needs to re-sign Harden, and pick up an MLE player too. So here we go, I don't exactly want to do this trade, but picking up Ish gives me a good back up PG on a very cheap contract. I think it's the smart thing for me to do rather than gamble with RFA where I could be forced to let Len go for nothing in return, or face a decision of keeping him in place of another player/signing, which is something I really don't want either.

Didn't I offer way more than this for Len like a month ago? I can't seem to find it in my inbox though.

Plumlee + Leuer for Len is light years better than this, right? But good deal for Josh. I'm surprised he's giving up his best friend. Love the hard cap casualties.

Well that offer came before RFA and the changes to the hard cap. Len's position on my team changed a lot after those two things happened. I likely would have accepted had that offer been made last week, but I got Leuer anyway, so whatever.

This leaves Denver pretty thin as far as bigs go. Will be interesting to see how his rotation changes by adding another project guard.
