Great trade for Dallas. He gets a piece that won't disintegrate into dust with the rest of his core that was built around Dirk. For Brooklyn, Josh is obviously going full tank mode, the fact that Gay will miss the rest of the season is a negative for Dallas but a positive for Brooklyn who no longer has an 80+ player messing up his record by winning games.
The thing that concerns me though is how quickly the Nets have abandoned what they strongly sold to free agents in the off-season. Reggie Jackson and Blake Griffin along with MKG and friends made a nice core to compete with, especially in the east. Griffin was then dealt almost immediately, and the second the trade limit is lifted on Reggie Jackson, he will also be dealt.
I guess I'll accept though. Blake Griffin being traded away is a sunk cost and now, with just Reggie, the Nets are sitting in that no-mans land where they aren't good, but don't suck either. So it does make some sense for both teams.

Mavericks Accept.
Rudy's injury was unfortunate as I was really trying to get something else working, but not much I can do about that at this point. This at least makes use of his contract and lands me a starter for the long-term.

So it does make some sense for both teams. Very fair points. When we signed Reggie, we still had Blake on the roster and were not anticipating the trade with the Timberwolves to actually materialize. We thought we were putting together a contender, and that is what we sold to Reggie. Once Walt and I were able to come to an agreement, Reggie was, as you said, in no-mans land. We felt an obligation to trade him to a team contending in the playoffs, as that was what he signed up for. We wish him the best of luck and hope he can help Dirk have one more run at a title. As the for future of the Nets, we get a post-Dirk era 1st rounder, as well as a player in Rudy Gay who will either be a valuable expiring contract, or an extremely valuable 85 SF on a 1 year deal this offseason. We have great medical facilities to nurture him back to full health, and will use his injury-karma to keep MKG healthy for the remainder of the season.

The Nets send Reggie to tank town after promising playoffs. 2017 Free Agents beware.

Hate when top free agents are traded immediately. Pretty much ruins the reality of anything that can actually be controlled. I guess I don't understand what Brooklyn gets out of this besides to tank and drop salary. Not really getting anything in return in my opinion.

Very much agreed with Alex. Solid spin from Barber in response, though I also must agree on the reality point that Kevin makes.
All told, I'll accept the trade.

I'm surprised Josh feels the need to tank since he could make the playoffs in the East already, but this fits both teams needs, makes sense, and that's enough to accept for me usually.

Josh always signs these players right before they suck and then manages to trade him a few weeks into sucking at their full price. Very impressed. Dallas is gonna be pissed in a few years when RJ is a backup again.

Honestly I am not really even trying to tank (and I mean that truthfully). That played a very very small part in this trade. I don't think going Jackson --> Ish in my lineup will lose me more than 3-5 games. I'm resigned to the fact that my team is likely no worse than the 8th seed in the East. I'm even still fighting for rating increases for my guys. I just thought this was really good value for Jackson, who didn't really fit my long term plan, so I took it. I knew I needed a 1st for Jackson, and Gay functions as a salary filler who may end up having enough value to get me another 1st if he opts in (which I think he will due to injury).

They already have more wins than half the bottom of the tanking East will get. He might still make the playoffs to be honest lol.

Dallas will make a run soon. Beware. Perhaps? I mean, all-told, they just lost 3 rating points from their starting lineup by moving from Gay to Jackson. Loses a solid depth piece in Wright while getting worse in their starting lineup. I'm talking based on the majority of his games this year where Gay WAS playing vs now with Jackson, for the record. Obviously, having Jackson is way better than when he didn't have Gay at all after his recent injury. Just saying, it was a recent injury so I'd say all told his team is about the same on paper for this season. We'll see how lineups shake out though.
