Well technically San Antonio should have his rights as they were the ones who drafted him in 2011.
Why was he created? No way anyone knew who he was on the 9th.
Ugh. I have to wait a year for Jokic and 2 years for Delly and this random draft and stash from 5 years ago gets created before the season starts? WTF.

I'm pretty sure Bertans was fairly well known as far as draft and stash prospects go. He was never given to the Spurs for the same reason Mirotic wasn't given to the Bulls. Draft rights for players from before the league started (2011 draft and earlier) had to be claimed: Chicago does not get Mirotic's draft rights because the original GM never claimed him. When we began the league there was a period during which GMs could post in a thread (which I can't locate any more) and claim players that their team held the draft rights to. Mirotic was never claimed by Aubrey Graham (former Bulls GM), so he will be added as a free agent whenever Walt Frazier gets around to it - probably this off season at the latest, I'm guessing. Utah cannot back out of this trade unless Blake Bowman also backs out of it. But now that Mirotic will be made available - what's the status of this trade guys? In that draft rights thread Bertans wasn't claimed. I'm also still waiting on the Chu Chu Maduabum gold mine I've been sitting on all these years to start paying out. You guys are done for once I add him to my team.

You guys are done for once I add him to my team. FWIW, I was in favor of Bertans being a FA this off-season. I am not entirely sure if he was on the list, and have no real qualms about it. Because if he was on the list, and I didn't sign him, I must not have been able to or else I would have. Only thing I have is: say I have 40 million in cap space, I fill that 40 million in the off-season, do I then have MLE? If I do have MLE, when does that help? Can I use my MLE that off-season to sign players, or do I need to wait till the season begins? If I need to wait till the season begins, how far in to the season? For some reason I feel the reason I didn't offer Bertans is because I filled my cap, was not able to use my MLE, and had to wait for the season to begin, but who knows.

We finally did MLE the correct way this season. You only get the MLE if you are over the cap when the off-season begins. So you just had no space left, period.

I'm gonna take advantage of this rule later. You can lose the MLE if you sink under the cap, fwiw. That's how I thought it was supposed to work, and that's why I didn't sign Bertans. You can't take advantage of it, the way it worked this past season, you could in past renditions of the rule.
