Louis Williams has decided to sign a contract with the Indiana Pacers!
Year 1 - $7,000,000
Year 2 - $7,770,000
Year 3 - $8,624,700
Year 4 - $9,573,417
Year 5 - $10,626,492 (Player Option)
Total: $43,594,609
Things were pretty quiet for Louis until a couple of days ago, when a few PMs came in suddenly from Chicago, Detroit, and Indiana. After a brief back and forth with each manager, the money ended up being basically the same in each offer. While Chicago was offering a key bench role, both Indiana and Detroit offered starting roles. Unfortunately, I had to eliminate Detroit as in theory his offer was identical to Indiana but Indiana's team is better. After that, I informed Shane Battier and Larry Bird that they were competing against each other for Louis' services, and asked each of them to argue the merits for themselves and against the other team.
I've now sat on both replies for close to 24 hours, and have decided that Indiana just makes more sense for Louis overall. While Chicago's bench role seems like the norm for Louis at this stage of his career (and for large chunks of his career), they really have solid depth already. And the way the sim works, Chris Paul and Jimmy Butler are going to play a LOT of minutes at Louis' positions. CJ Miles and Gary Harris, while lower ratings, are no slouches either. With some possible rating adjustments, Louis could see his role decreased even more in short order. He probably has the most claim to the backup PG duties, but overall we just did not see that many minutes available in Chicago. Louis had the opportunity to start and obviously play a key role in a revamped Indiana lineup featuring Al Jefferson, Danilo Gallinari, and Deron Williams.
I want to thank all of Louis' suitors (there were a couple more than mentioned but they balked at the money pretty quickly), and we wish the Indiana Pacers great success as Louis looks to be an aggressive scorer for this lineup.
