Will Barton will sign with the Dallas Mavericks for the following deal:
Year 1: $18,000,000 Year 2: $19,980,000 Year 3: $22,177,800 Year 4: $24,617,358 (PO)
Total: $84,775,158
Will's first offer came from the Denver Nuggets. We appreciated Alex's dedication and appreciation of Will's talents, but his ability to only offer the MLE ended up being a very big road block once the other offers came through. We also received a solid offer from Josh Barber's Brooklyn Nets. He was unwilling to match the level of contract that we ended up with, however, so he was also eliminated.
It came down to the Mavericks and the Kings. Both teams offered starting positions, and both teams offered the same or very similar contracts. The Kings have the best single building block on their team (Damian Lillard), but the Mavs have a more complete and competitive team overall. What it came down to was a mix of that factor, along with Danny's pushing for Will at every step. When Danny found out there was another bidder, he upped his offer. Then, Julius would match. Then Danny would offer the Starting SG, which Julius would then match. Then Danny upped his money again, which Julius matched. After looking back at it, it became clear who wanted Will more and who believed IN Will's talents more.
So, congratulations to Danny Longley and the Dallas Mavericks franchise! Will looks forward to playing in your great city!

Probably my first signing in D5 who's not about to turn 30. Welcome to the Mavericks Will!

Holy shit this is a lot of money, and I'm a fan of the guy. I agree, and would usually have brought it down a little. But I kept thinking about things like the Tyler Johnson contract IRL and decided to let it fly on this one.
