Hmm. The Spurs have had such an interesting off-season. They started with 2 points guards - Reggie Jackson and Isaiah Thomas. Now they have three! Rose, Thomas, and MCW.
I’m from NY, and therefore woefully optimistic about Rose’s health. That being said, this is a huge contract. Rose/Green/Turner/Millsap/Valacunias with Thomas and Sefalosha off the bench could be nice, but it’s always tough out West.
My question to JR – does this mean that IT is on his way out? Or are you planning on playing all three PGs?

That is a bit curious. I would assume Rose had not many offers by the end, OR that the money from everyone else wasn't anywhere close.

Great contract for rose and good gamble for the spurs. If he goes back to his old form this is more than worth it

I think IT and Rose will play well together but I hope, for JR's sake, that Rose can get at least close to his old form or this will end up being a franchise crippling move.

We would like to wish Derrick Rose the best. It was a good run in Houston. Unfortunately, we felt that this contract was too pricey for us given Derrick Rose's consistent, long term injury history. We were not willing to pay this amount for this long when we could find an equal, if not better replacement for the same price without the high risk.

Spurs vs Rockets just became a bigger rivalry It really didn't. JR has been bugging me for a while about acquiring Rose and when Alex told me how much Rose was offered and if I wanted to match it, I knew only one person would be like that and offer him that much. In all reality, I went in to this off-season knowing I wasn't resigning Derrick unless it was for the money I originally offered, which I think was somewhere between 70-75 over 4 with a TO in the 4th. And I knew when I saw the contracts coming out that that wasn't happening. It's why we pursued other point guards. The cap may be going up. And this contract may end up looking cheap. But, there will be other free agents. And we need cap flexibility for those guys. Plus, I cannot imagine the cap will continue to increase like this past the new CBA. Which could mean this contract will be huge in years 4 and 5. And we didn't feel that a guy with bad knees was a good investment. Even more so, we want hard working, good attitude players on our roster. And from the time he injured his first ACL, he has kind of been a dickhead about everything. I don't want to have to question my star player's desire to play this game night in and night out. What kind of message does that send to the young guys? We would rather have a player, like Kevin Love, who faced adversity, and rose to the challenge and locked down "the best player in the NBA" with the game on the line, in game 7 of the NBA finals.

Barkley, what are you smoking?!?!?!?! Love gets 9 points and 14 rebounds after stinking up the joint in games 2, 4, 5, and 6, he played okay in 1 and was hurt during game 3, and you say "he locked the best player in the NBA" with the game on the line, in game 7 of the NBA finals." Seriously man, that's turrible logic man! PS. I bet you guys would never thought I would say this, but I would take Bosh over Kevin Love even with his blot clots.
