Analysing D5Shane Battier is using D5 for his studies IRL and has asked to interview each of us as GMs. Please help him out however you can, I'm really interested to see what he finds! Shane Battier can definitely explain it better than me, but we've been talking about how we classify D5 - is it just a "sim league"? I called it a "legacy league" before I'd heard of the term "sim league" because every action by a GM affects a team both in the present and in the future, even if the GM leaves, which means GMs are building something more meaningful than the average computer game. I have a lot of Google and Proboards Analytics information that is useful but I think Shane Battier will also be interviewing you all on your rates of participation with the forum as a whole. I'd be interested whether you guys are as geeky as me and access D5 as soon as you wake up, during work/studies, after work and so on

Interview me Shane!
How much trouble will you get into if my best quote has the F word in it?

I propose we limit access to the forum to a strict window between 3.30 am and 3.45 am and consider anything else to be a form of cheating

Thanks guys!
I'm really excited to start with my research! But please don't expect too much, I might disappoint you lol. I would be working alone so I would really appreciate all the help I can get from you. I'm planning to use survey questionnaire and conduct in-depth interviews. I am working with the data gathering instruments at the moment then I'll be presenting it to my adviser next week to get her approval.
Based from what I've read in some materials, gamers play various games because they enjoy the "passive retreat from reality" they experience. It could be the reason why we have this perspective that a game world has a reality of its own that is different and apart from what we consider the 'real world'. However, this perspective has been highly scrutinized and critiqued by many scholars because it limits our understanding of games. Fine (1983) argues that game world is not separated but rather embedded within a wider social framework. He argues that it is impossible not to understand gaming as structured to a particular culture and society.
Why I chose D5? Well, aside from my familiarity with the game, I'm also intrigued with its potential to offer new insights about multiplayer online games and their influence in our 'offline reality'. Moreover, I would like to study D5 in terms of its function as a 'virtual third place.'

I'm in Shane. Also. Since you used a quote in your last post, I assume you are using that as part of your paper. You might look at your last sentence. The wording sounds a little off.

Sounds cool.
When referencing me though, be sure to refer to me as The Alex English.
Also, it's very important that 'The' is italicized for emphasis. Anything less may result in me taking legal action. I don't lend my name out lightly.

But really, Shane Battier , I can probably provide you with some data and nice looking graphs, just put me as an author on your paper (if youre publishing) this is the kind of thing that could help me get the job im trying to get Then just write your own paper? What is stopping you from contacting an editor with the times or some shit, I am sure they need shit to fill the pages and articles. do the research, contact them. Those people get paid to listen to things like that nowadays, considering everything is done from the internet and most authors are out sourced, very few work solely for a paper/in print media now. While I think looking at graphs of activity for this site is interesting, what about its affect/effect it has on our lives? Not only does it temporarily give us a virtual world to operate in where we are God-like General Managers, but what does that do to us when we are not on the forum? How does the outcome of a crucial trade affect us? Losing a player in Free Agency? I can't speak for everyone in here, but I think we would be lying if we said the failure of a trade doesn't affect us in our lives outside of this. Considering we spend weeks and months preparing and planning for things, the outcome of those things is important to us. This isn't some game where we rank up and can actually see how well we are doing via an icon or rank. What about the patience one needs to see a rebuild through? I can say that this "game" has affected my personal life more than any other game I have ever played

Right! Aside from analyzing how this 'sim league' functions as a virtual third place, I'm also interested to know how it affects our everyday lives. I can definitely relate to what Charles is talking about, but I will not be elaborating my ideas so I won't somehow influence yours.

"What is the worst part of playing basketball-related games"
Reading redundant monologues and seeing whiteside statistics, of course!
