Seriously think this has to be done, although this might be a controversial post. Lebron might still be the best player in basketball today, in the world. He might be the #1 player you’d pick if you wanted to win a title. All of that should be irrelevant to Lebron’s rating.
Lebron has been rated a 99 forever. He’s Lebron, of course! But it is undeniable that he has been playing worse over the past year, maybe past 2 years. Why should his current play garner the same exact rating as his prime Miami years? In Miami, he was putting up huge numbers on unheard of efficiency. Those numbers are still there, but the efficiency has dropped off, hard.
The raw numbers are really similar, honestly. There are no discernible and significant differences in his rebounding or assists or turnovers or steals or blocks.
But how can we justify leaving his rating unchanged when there has been such a marked decrease in efficiency?
Why does 26 points on 56 FG% (64/65 TS%) get a 99 rating when 26 points on 48/59 FG% (56/57 TS%) also gets that same rating? His PER is down almost 6 points from his prime Miami years. His WS/48 are down. He is shooting 25% (!!) from three this year on four 3PA per game ! I haven’t even discussed his defense, which appears to be down with a lot less effort these past years.
Therefore, it is obvious he is no longer playing at the level which he was previously (99), and his rating should reflect that. I don’t think it needs to be drastic, but it should be done.
Current: 99 Suggested: 96

I think we could decrease some of his speed related attributes and increase some of the awareness attributes (even if less efficient Lebron is one of the best COACHES in the NBA).
Saying all that, 96

What was LBJ's rating before he went to Miami? Its probably been a 99 overall for like 6 years.

98 did everyone forget the finals already?? And this is coming from someone who despises lbj Two counter-points: 1) I don’t believe the performance was THAT good. His usage rate was out of control. He was the ball handler on essentially every play. So his counting stats are inflated. He didn’t shoot over 50% once and shot under 40% 3 times in that series. Three times he shot sub-40%!! That’s really bad! 2) Even if you disagree and think his finals performance was godly, should we really give Lebron a full-season ranking based on one performance? Why does he get a 99 for an entire season and playoffs based on one Finals series?

Fair point but I'd argue that he had to carry the team so if he was efficient and deferred like he did on the heat in 2014 they would've been eviscerated. He did what they needed to win and even with the entire d focused on him he still scored. And he never ever got easy shots. Every point he scored was hard earned on ridiculous post moves or his inhuman strength. Like I said I've disliked lbj ever since the decision but after watching him literally carry the team on his back in those finals, more than any other player I've ever seen in any sport, I have to recognize his greatness. 96 seems disrespectful. Even 98 is harsh though it's because he was just so good on the heat and is only ridiculously good as opposed to back then when he was putting up some of the best seasons of all time.

Well Lebron is still the best player, and Durant is a 97. I think they've just been smarter about his playing time. This year and last year are the lowest minutes per games years of his career. If he was playing that extra 3 minutes every night, you could easily see an extra 2 points, 1 rebound and 1 assists on his averages.
I agree he hasn't been quite as dominant as a younger Lebron though, he does turn 31 years old in a few days. He's not a young man any more.
I'll go 98.

I've watched probably 90% of the Cavs games this season and I really hope he's just trying to get his 3pt shot right for the playoffs. Like I'm screaming bloody murder every time he jacks up a 3 pointer with a dude on him. There is always a better shot than a contested 3. I feel like because he has guys on his team that do the little dribble shake and bake step back jumper IE Kyrie, JR Smith that he feels like he has to be able to do it too or something. Those kinds of players were never on the Heat teams and he never took those shots in Miami. The thing is, that little shake and bake jumper is basically JR's entire game. LeBron is so good at so many things that its almost complete bullshit when he takes an outside jumper or any sort of iso jumper that doesn't involve the post. Maybe its just because the ball finds him in the offense and he's staying out of the paint as much as he can to save his body. Who knows. Only the end of the season can tell us.

98. I think he has lost a step for sure, but I still have to rate him the highest. However, I think it's good that his stats are going to be looked at. Decrease his three point and field goal and increase his o and d awareness.
