This is dumb, we voted him an 82 but now our votes don't matter? He might put up stats, but they are empty stats, thus why people are voting to lower him. One person's opinion does not trump the votes of the entire league. The RC is already sketchy enough by tricking GMs and moving the ghost 'injury' rating up and down to impact the player's overall, but this takes it to a whole new level. Appreciate this, truly. #1 - The entire league is not in there adjusting his individual ratings. I only posted what I posted after looking at his individual ratings a bit myself. #2 - I do NOT adjust the Injury rating. It is at a 70 for every single player I update, and has been for a while. When I first started, I was adjusting it based off a player's real-life injury history. After just a little bit, with the help of other RC members (possibly even you, I don't remember who it was), we all decided to set it at a flat 70 and let it sit there. I haven't adjusted anyone else outside of a 70 to my memory. Would appreciate lies not get spread around. That's how people begin to "question" the RC, when they see lies and start to believe them. So please, don't start the lies in the first place, thank you. I'll lower him to an 82 for y'all, but it's going to be a result I'm not proud of. He won't be accurate, but that's what you all want, so you'll get a messed up Rondo. Congrats :-)

Yea what is this? We can't open the door where Walt can just ignore the votes. If Rondo is first, who's next? And how often will this start happening? As long as our system is one where we average out all the votes, then we have to go with the votes, no matter what. It doesn't really matter if one person thinks some ratings are off. If we'll go down that road then just let me independently set the ratings for all the players, I think I'd do a better job than giving everyone a fair vote. Ya'll don't know what you're talking about. So give me the role of stockwatch dictator. Deal? Gotta love some over the top hyperbole.

Obama was elected with that being one of his main platforms. The majority of the voting public were in favor of Obamacare, and then it happened. But, politics have less than nothing to do with this Sim league, so not sure on the relevance?

Nah the mess that got passed was nothing like what he ran on. The only possible good thing that would've come from that law was the public option and that was removed. Now I'm just getting fined for not having the health insurance I still can't afford.

Have you tried to get a plan yet?
2 years ago I was really struggling for money. I didn't want the fine so I thought I'd at least check this whole thing out.
I ended up with a $260/month plan.
Due to subsidies based on my low income, I paid THREE DOLLARS A MONTH for it.
You can't afford $3?

Obviously it may work differently for others but, on my personal experience it worked out well for a low-income individual (me).

So, basically the majority is fine with giving INACCURATE skill set just to feel good about their opinion. Yeah, that is a hard job Walt. I think, you should at least ask his owner on what skills you should decrease so that you will not feel any guilt after you finish it.

They could say to take his 3pt down all the way because they have 3pt shooters and don't need it. That then makes Rondo basically get an increase everywhere else. Lots of weird things could happen like that. I made my best effort at it, it's not the end of the world, I just don't like the ratings he has now in some areas. But, I'll put a boost thread up for him when I get the time. I appreciate the sympathy!

He's a weird player because he's so good at some things and so bad at other things that to do an arbitrary rating on him is more difficult.

No, the majority don't accept the idea that there has to be a choice between an 82 overall rating, and an accurate representation of his skills. In the rating committee section I put up a suggestion that I think is both fair to Rondo and should get him to an 82. He even got increases in three or four areas. As the little girl from Mexico says:

I'm not saying he looks like Dwight Howard in his rating profile, I'm just saying he doesn't look like a good enough version of Rajon Rondo anymore, based on what he's doing IRL.

Walt, I appreciate all your hard work in these ratings, and I'm also cognizant of the fact that you have a better grasp on the relationship between OVR rating and their individual skill ratings. But the attitude that you're taking with this seems really off to me. We vote these players based on their skills relative to other players - you can't just decide that Rondo is worth something because your personal evaluation of his skills leads you to that conclusion. That erodes the entire credibility of the rating system! If Rondo's skills, as you see them, do not add up to the rating the league voted on, then he needs decreases/increases in other areas. If the only way to do that is to decrease his assisting skills, then so be it. The overall rating is supposed to reflect his total impact on the game relative to other players. If that comes at the cost of making him slightly less a reflection of IRL Rondo, that's what has to happen. I just am surprised with how nonchalantly you tried to dismiss his league-voted rating in favor of a unilateral decision regarding his ratings based on your perception of Rondo's contributions. I get that it is tough because its seems like the game cannot accurately describe Rondo's abilities at the rating we voted for him, but I think all that means is that perhaps his abilities aren't that great.

I also have seen people say things like "I think he's an 'xx' but if he ends up a point higher or lower once they get in there and fix his ratings, so be it." So, I guess I thought I had earned a little trust. I will remember, with renewed vigor, I am but a servant. I am vile. I am a cheater. All my players are overrated and I cheat the game, that's why I'm the 4th worst team in the West. All makes sense. I use loads of my free time just to screw the league over. Seems to be the viewpoint of a few people in the league, anyway. The OVR rating is highly misleading, I'll just leave it at that. I can make a 75 OVR player come damn close to leading the league in scoring. Probably could make him a pretty good rebounder too. But, the league says he's just a decent bench player b/c that's what his OVR says he is. I just don't think that's the right way to look at things. But anyway, he's an 82, change is already completed in the game as soon as Ian inputs it.

His stats are empty stats; he doesn't ever really look good, at least not consistently all game or from game to game. Then we need to make the SIM Rondo reach close to those "empty" stats too, don't we? 11 assists per game, but he's not a very good player. He'll never reach 11 apg in this sim, it really kills assist numbers, but I'm just saying. At some point, even if it's just a little bit, "we are what our record says we are" applies to players' numbers. His passing and rebounding and steals are quite elite, with the rebounding being viewed from a guard, of course. Court Vision has always been touted as top notch, so O-Aware would go pretty high. He's still fast/quick, even if not elite level like he used to be. You can think he's not a good player, that's fine. No one can or should change your mind. My job is to try to make Sim Rondo look like IRL Rondo. I think I've failed, but I had the restriction of the League's vote to work with. So be it.

Again, absolutely not accusing you of anything at all and I don't think you should get so defensive. I'm just curious about the system if that's the case. What's the point of the league votes then?

I'm not saying I HAVE made a 75 player into a stud. I'm saying the OVR rating isn't as important as many seem to think. That's all I was saying there. The reason everyone votes is because none of us can watch every game and every player, and even if we did, we'd all see different things in the process. It was not my intention to ignore the vote. Again, I thought I had garnered a tiny modicum of trust, but I realize that if anything, I am questioned more and more, so the opposite is true. You all have your 82 Rondo. He is not the same Rondo you see IRL, so I suggest a rating increase, but it's too soon with so many other ratings left to do.

If you ever see me just randomly quit while screaming bullshit in a podcast then it will be because I see something like that. I haven't and we all know that Vlade would have done the same thing if he had seen that being done while he was on the RC.
Since that didn't happen then we can put our full trust in Walt.
And for the record, Walt did a kickass job designing Rondo to be the 82 and still basically matching the spirit of his strengths and weaknesses.

The way I see it Walt, and trust me I have no accusation inside of me, is that you've made dozens and dozens of players that couldn't be perfectly represented by their overall rating, so it just seemed really odd to people that this rating was the one to make you stop and say "no".

The fact that you used those words seemed like you think I must find it easy to cheat and screw the league. Again, I may be overly sensitive to these accusations but I've always been this way because I find it very unfair to be accused of cheating when I have not done so. Others have thrown out the cheating accusations, you didn't directly but I read into your comment to mean that I find it easy to cheat. I did not appreciate that.

I guess I usually just felt like I could get close enough with those others. With Rondo, I really felt I couldn't. Maybe he is just that unique of a stat profile to represent? That's not too hard to believe for me anyway.

I'm just confused because we stress so much emphasis on the democratic nature of these ratings and then you come out and say something like I can make a 75 OVR player come close to leading the league in scoring... I don't understand this point at all. Anyone can make a player lead the league in scoring it isnt rocket science. He can give someone a 100 in all offensive categories and give him really low stuff everywhere else and that player would probably have like 35 ppg while being a 77 overall. He's just saying that as a way to illustrate that overall ratings frankly don't matter if they are close enough. Andrei Kirilenko - I understand your point about Walt not wanting to accept the voted rating as being a bad one, but your other accusations of any RC sketchiness isn't true. Anyone accusing Walt of cheating is fucking nuts, maybe he could make builds good for some players over others, but the ratings are literally published on the forum for everyone to read, so if anyone has any problems they can address Walt or another RC member about it directly and we'd probably be happy to open up the discussion thread on that player that led to those ratings. It's basically impossible for Walt to cheat in any way. The only person here that can even possibly cheat in this league is a collusiony Player Agent or Ian.

Cmon now, Walt. I didn't call you/accuse you of any of those things No need to get so defensive, can't we have a calm discussion about this ? I'm just confused because we stress so much emphasis on the democratic nature of these ratings and then you come out and say something like I can make a 75 OVR player come close to leading the league in scoring... Again, absolutely not accusing you of anything at all and I don't think you should get so defensive. I'm just curious about the system if that's the case. What's the point of the league votes then? Sorry. I take the accusations I've seen (like Barber in this thread, among others) really personally. Makes me wonder why I use my time on this when I have to deal with the unfounded accusations that are 100% false. I've never cheated anyone or at anything, so I just really take it personal. Come on Walt, don't tell that on public That is a secret.
