Matthew has agreed to take his talents to Memphis. Jeremiah Hill wanted Matthew so bad that he was able to prove to Matthew that Memphis is full of great farmers markets that are full of organic fruits and vegetables Link 1 Link 2 How could we say no? He accepts the following deal Year 1: $2,800,000 Year 2: $3,108,000 Year 3: $3,449,880 Year 4: $3,829,366 Total: 4 years, 13,187,246

Who didn't see this coming? We should have been smarter about it though, someone should have driven up his salary to like 10 mil a year. I bet Jeremiah would have paid it.

The Memphis Grizzlies are interested in smart and fair deals that are beneficial to both sides. Matthew has shown himself to be easily worthy of this contract. We love Matthew and his game but if someone had offered him 10 million dollars per year he would be on that team.

...smart and fair deals that are beneficial to both sides. Matthew has shown himself to be easily worthy of this contract. Actually agree that he is easily worth this, especially in this new market. I think he should possibly have a higher contract number and if not, at the very least, he should have at least one Player Option in year 3 (if not year 2) in case he continues his development. This is extremely cheap. Probably too cheap and with too much security on Memphis' side considering the age of the player and his recent development.

This is around what it was rumored he would be asking for on hoops rumors. And probably what he'll get in real life.

And in real life he is possibly coming back to the Eastern Conference Champions who have LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, etc on the team. IJS, that does make a difference.

We'll see, I'm fine saying I was wrong about this. I just would have put one Player Option in year 3 most likely and felt better about it from Dellavadova's end. That makes a big difference in the contract.

Yeah, but coming into the league as an undrafted free agent he signed with a rebuilding Cavaliers team that had young players like mine does.

I also don't see your obsession with all these player options considering that NONE of the real life deals have been structured that way.

Since our contracts are going to be structured differently than Real Life (I think IRL they are based on % and can go up by a lot more than ours can since they are going up with the increased salary cap) I think it makes some sense. I think even these highest contracts are going to look like solid deals, maybe even bargains.
Consider, a 30 million dollar contract in this year's cap would be around 44% of the total cap. Whereas in two more years (2017-18 season) or said another way, year 3 of any new contract signed, a 30 million dollar contract for that year's cap would be around 27% of the total cap.
Flip that on it's head, and 27% of this year's total cap is only an 18 million dollar contract.
So, that's the reason for PO's. Our contract structure means the contracts we are signing may be too low even though they look really big to us right now. We just need to guard against that.
Also, maybe I'm just a better agent for my players than these real life guys :-p
No but really the main reason is the cap and the way our contracts are going to be structured compared to how they are structured in real life.

More than likely the GMs in the league sent out an e-mail saying hey no one offer those stupid contracts. The players can't accept what isn't offered.

Also in addition to the money being realistic, I put ALOT of effort into my offers. And that is one part of the equation. There have been players swayed by GM presentations already this offseason.

This part is true. I know James Kay did serious work last season to get some signings to go in his favor.

I write big long presentations and have signed some pretty formidable FAs over the years.
