Having just traded for Jarrett Jack we don't have as much of a need for Joseph anymore and there are a couple guys that I like that I feel could be available at the 31st pick. Also, I don't own the rights to my own 1st rounder which is pick #30 so getting #31 in the 2nd round is the next best thing.
I accept

Just because he wasn't part of the rotation doesn't mean he didn't serve a need. You're always just an injury away from having to play a backup. Hopefully you have a solid backup in the event an injury occurs!

Golden State wins again! I would like this a lot more for Cleveland if they owned Joseph's Bird Rights.

Circus shot after circus shot would fall for them as they racked up the rings Yes but, lets think for a second. If you take away Duncan, do they win anything? A Finals? A Western Conference tittle? A Southwestern Division? I don't think so. I think you CAN take away Parker OR Ginobli and they still win ring after ring. And I think if you take away both, they might get 1. I mean, they are both likely HOFers, but if they played for a different franchise, would their careers turn out the same way? I think not. This is why, IMO, we can attribute Parker's and Ginobli's success to Duncan and the Spurs. Not the success of the Spurs to Ginobli and Parker. And circus shot after circus shot doesn't mean anything. Yes Ginobli introduced us to the Euro-step, but that would have come along sooner or later.

This is also why we need WAR to be a more widely used stat in the NBA, and I am not sure if it is even used at all.

Regardless, its impossible to separate their contributions, their careers are too intertwined at this point and the best you can do is to give them credit for their results. Anything else is pure speculation.

Regardless, its impossible to separate their contributions, their careers are too intertwined at this point and the best you can do is to give them credit for their results. Anything else is pure speculation. I understand that, and when asked about my opinion on them, I do give them credit for their achievements. But what I am saying is that Spurs players are regarded more highly around the NBA and D5. And I think this is solely based off of them being a Spur. This isn't about Manu and Parker but more about guys like Gary Neal, Patty Mills, Cory Joseph, Splitter, Diaw. I think those guys benefited greatly because of the system. Which says a lot about Pop to get the right guys for his system. The problem occurs when those guys leave and go to other teams then under perform and everyone wonders why. And it is simply because they don't fit that new system, or because they were made to be so good in SA, that they are under performing elsewhere. Pop's system has a synergistic value with certain players, mostly role players. I think Duncan, Parker, and Manu would be good elsewhere. Duncan would be great elsewhere. Manu probably the same, but I think Tony would take the most hit of the 3 elsewhere. I also wonder what Kawhi would be like elsewhere. He has a lot of transferable skills, but if he weren't on a team that thrives on ball movement, he may have a tough time getting his own shot, not because he can't create, but because the paint would be crowded or there would be a bigger double team presence because the pass threat would be less. It is similar to the Patriots offensive and defensive systems. Only certain guys fit in the role spots, and they don't fit well elsewhere. But guys with transferable skills, like Revis, fit everywhere. Could say that about a lot of NFL teams. Again, we need WAR in the NBA. It pretty much defines who you are in baseball. And I think it would do wonders in the NBA, it would be a lot better than PER in terms of "ranking" players.

Ginobili and Parker may have showed more and have better productions.

Even when someone thinks they are using facts or stats, it is always an interpretation of those stats. We are discussing things. It would be boring as hell if we just sat around and said things like, "LeBron lost in the finals 4 times" "but he won 2 times" "but that was with wade and bosh" I mean, when people say those things, they are always followed by their assumption or opinion. Most people have an opinion on something or make an assumption about something and then use stats to follow it up. Thats how discussing things about sports and life in general works. Like, we can look at Khris Middleton's stats, those are facts. Then we can pay him more money than what those stats say he should be paid, based off the assumption that he will get better. Or the opinion that LMA is a great PF and deserves 25 million a year. Those are all opinions and assumptions. Facts are boring. It doesn't allow you to think critically, or analytically, or think at all for that matter.

I was just saying that making assumptions makes things more interesting. Yes I am always talking and thinking about a lot of "what if" scenarios. Because I think they are fun. Rather than challenge the usefulness and validity of my idea, why not share your opinion about the Spurs and Duncan and crew. Join in on the discussion rather than poop on the idea of a discussion.
