As a preliminary matter, I’d like to mention that although Nerlens is a rookie, and therefore some of you may be against adjusting his rating, his rating was created the year prior - separately from all of the other rookie ratings.
Right now, Noel is rated as a 72! Now, I’d just like to bring up some other rookie ratings: Smart – 77. McDaniels – 75. Payton – 75. Vonleh – 76. Gordon – 76. (These ratings, in my opinion, as well as most of the rookies, are about 2-4 points too high, but I think its relevant to Nerlens as he was not given the same treatment as the other rookies this season)
I have 3 suggested ratings: Relative to the other rookies: 80 Representative of actual value: 75-76. Middle Ground – 77-78.
Nerlens is leading all rookies in rebounds, blocks, and steals. The Sixers last year were 27th in defensive rating. This year they are 12th. In their last 20 games, they are 9th. In their last 5, they are 2nd. Nerlens is killing it defensively. His offensive game is still very raw. Very raw. But his defense is fantastic, rim protection, coming up with steals, causing turnovers, he’s got it all. I just think 72 is far too low and 77-78 is a reasonable rating for him.

I'd be okay bumping him up 2 points or so to 74. Don't put a single point into FG though. It needs to all go into blocking and rebounding and DA. He's averaging around 2 blocks per game, and almost 8 rebounds. Not bad, he takes a lot of shots but misses them. no one really defends him on the offensive end.
Edit: Going by the plumlee scale, 74 is probably a bit high... so 73.

74. 8 points and 7 boards in 30 minutes kinda sucks and he shoots just 44%.

Thought you were against adjusting rookies Walt? I am, but I was pushing for Noel to be higher before LAST season even started. Anyway, you're right overall. I just thought the 72 was a joke of a rating for the guy who most thought was the best in his class before the injury knocked his draft stock down. When rating, I was thinking more about that and less about how he is still a rookie. Due to that error, I will retract my vote and once again insist that we wait for a full season on Rookies. Although that send to be falling on deaf ears

Its just a matter of standing of what we believe is the best thing to do.

Its just a matter of standing of what we believe is the best thing to do. Same with me. What I really want to avoid is having us adjust 25 players down after they struggle to adjust in their first 2-3 months of the NBA and then we end up adjusting 15-20 of those players back up after they do adjust and earn more PT by the end of the season. That's really my reasoning. May not have been clear before.

Basically all the players who have had almost zero chance to prove anything one way or the other, and you Hanamichi posted threads to bring them all down. They did nothing to disprove their rating one way or the other.
Nerlens is one of the Rookies who have gotten minutes and I guess I would be more open to adjusting based on what we've seen so far.... But I think all rookie changes should be tempered. And if they haven't really gotten minutes, leave them alone!

I only post 1 thread to bring them all down but I did not post one for each. I have created thread, IMHO, for the players that have shown that they dont deserve their ratings. There are some exceptions of course.

In addition, Exum, Nurkic, and Smart weren't doing anything so good or so bad to be worth changing them, and they all really could use more time. Just my opinion of course, but I think it is too reactionary to adjust rookies drastically down and then just end up adjusting a lot of them back up. How about we just make one proper adjustment late in the season.

We will still decrease them, and, IMHO, that is very unfair no matter how low the rating is. But if we decrease them now, and they played great in the future, we can adjust them and everything is fair. Thats my reasoning. But I do respect yours too.
