Kirk Goldsberry definitely isn't a nobody. Him and Zach Lowe are two of the best basketball journalists/writers out there right now. The thing with that article though is that it's saying something most people who are paying attention already know. Kawhi is a world class defender, he should be on the All-Defensive 1st team. I don't think anybody really questions his contribution on that end. The problem is he just isn't a complete two way player yet. He may be a superstar on defense, but he's still just a complimentary player on offense. He doesn't deserve a rating in the high 80s because of that. He's taken a big step forward this year, and I don't doubt he has the potential to be a true star, but he's not there yet.

This is one of my more radical options, but I truly think Kawhi is better than Paul George. We'll see how PG plays after he comes back from injury though.
Anyway, yeah kawhi appears to have taken a step back this year, but he's been struggling with an injury most of the season. Recently, and actually more than recently, he's regained his form.
In his last 17 games he's averaging 18 points 7 boards 2.7 steals 1.1 blocks on 53% shooting. If he can get his 3 stroke back he's actually be a top 10 player in the league, if he isn't already.

Radican would be to compare Paul George to JR Smith but Kawhi Leonard is a finals MVP. Some could argue that Spurs are saving their best for the playoffs.

I think it's a fair comparison. If you swapped Paul George and Kawhi I think you'd see similar numbers from them. If Kawhi had to be the guy then his efficiency would probably drop a lot more, and if PG had the luxury of playing in the Spurs system and with those teammates then he'd probably do what we see Kawhi doing, especially since they're two of the top 4 or 5 perimeter defenders in the league. Paul George has proven himself as a capable offensive star a lot more than Kawhi though. I also don't expect much from PG for six months to a year after he comes back, I'll be happy to have him back though.

grantland.com/the-triangle/claw-school-kawhi-leonards-defensive-master-class/come on guys! open your mind. Also, why not form your own point of view on this subject and make some analysis or some sort of points of your own rather than just post articles for us to read. Form your own, original thought on the subject and post it. No one wants to have to read a long ass article written by some dude no one has ever heard of. Have the time, those guys writing the articles, especially articles like the one you just posted, aren't given an assignment, they just write about whatever they want to write about and they pick their favorite shit, because in the end they are fan-boys. I'm not talking about Simmons or Lowe here either. Why would I waste my time and effort in explaining my view if an article had already given an in depth analysis of it. Read the article brother, it's in depth. And by the way we are all fan boys like them but the difference is, it's their job to analyze things in the NBA while we are just are regular fan boys. Yet you want to listen more te me than them. In general, I just want to maximize his rating specially on the defensive end.

Meh, Sakuragi is right. We have these threads to discuss players beyond stats. Experts analysis in theory should be beyond stats and what we can discuss as amateurs in terms of truthfulness.

So, Kawhi has been processed up to an 82 from this thread already. Really need a new thread, which may need to wait until the offseason or the start of next year?

We need a new thread regardless. This one was started in January, and some votes came in, then I said how we had just raised him not long ago and not much had changed since then since he was hurt to start the season, etc. And that previous thread had only officially closed about a week before this thread was started.
Then someone said "bump" in late March and more votes came in. It's not a good way to do these things. The votes are skewed all over the place.
