Current Rating: 81 Suggested Rating: 87
Seeing the Kyle Lowry thread got me thinking- Jeff Teague is very similar to Lowry. I know everyone on this forum are Raptors fanboys which is why Lowry is rated so highly, but the Hawks are the best team in the East, and Teague is the best player on the Hawks. He is dominant on both ends of the floor.
Teague Stats: 17.3 ppg, 7.0 apg, 2.7 rpg, 0.4 bpg, 1.7 spg, 48.2% fg Lowry Stats: 20.7 ppg, 7.7 apg, 4.8 rpg, 0.2 bpg, 1.5 spg, 45.2% fg
However, if we extrapolate the stats to per 36 stats (Hawks run a Spurs offense/rotation system if no one watches, meaning Teague gets less shots and minutes than Lowry), we see that Teague is extremely close to Lowry:
Teague Stats: 19.9 ppg, 8.0 apg, 3.1 rpg, 0.4 bpg, 1.9 spg, 48.2% fg Lowry Stats: 21.6 ppg, 8.0 apg, 5.0 rpg, 0.2 bpg, 1.6 spg, 45.2% fg
Lowry scores slightly more points and gets more rebounds, but Teague gets better defensive stats & is a much more efficient player. Personally, just from watching the two, I would rather have Teague on my team, but I know a lot of the Raptors fans are going to disagree. Either way, he clearly isn't an 81, and IMO should be rated very similarly to Lowry.

My first instinct looking at this was that this is crazy. But after looking at it some more, maybe not. Jeff Teague has continuously improved since coming into the league and the Hawks are playing great basketball.
There are so many good point guards in the league it's crazy. There might be more than 10 guys who deserve 85+ ratings. Here are the top point guards in the league this season, can you pick out who is who and explain why some of their ratings are so different from each other?
Player 1: 23.1 ppg, 7.3 apg, 5.0 rpg, 2.1 spg, 0.2 bpg, 3.3 tpg, 49.2 FG%, 39.1 3P%, 92.0 FT%, Rating: 89 Stephen Curry
Player 2: 18.0 ppg, 6.1 apg, 3.2 rpg, 1.2 spg, 0.1 bpg, 2.2 tpg, 46.0 FG%, 43.7 3P%, 84.7 FT%, Rating: 84 Mike Conley
Player 3: 20.9 ppg, 5.3 apg, 3.1 rpg, 1.5 spg, 0.3 bpg, 2.1 tpg, 45.8 FG%, 35.2 3P%, 84.3 FT%, Rating: 85 Kyrie Irving
Player 4: 16.7 ppg, 4.0 apg, 3.6 rpg, 1.0 spg, 0.1 bpg, 2.1 tpg, 49.4 FG%, 35.9 3P%, 81.8 FT%, Rating: 84 Goran Dragic
Player 5: 21.7 ppg, 6.4 apg, 4.9 rpg, 1.4 spg, 0.2 bpg, 2.7 tpg, 45.6 FG%, 38.9 3P%, 87.3 FT%, Rating: 84 Damien Lilard
Player 6: 16.2 ppg, 5.2 apg, 1.7 rpg, 0.7 spg, 0.0 bpg, 2.6 tpg, 51.5 FG%, 62.1 3P%, 80.0 FT%, Rating: 86 Tony Parker
Player 7: 20.7 ppg, 7.7 apg, 4.8 rpg, 1.5 spg, 0.2 bpg, 2.3 tpg, 45.2 FG%, 34.9 3P%, 81.0 FT%, Rating: 82 Kyle Lowry
Player 8: 17.2 ppg, 4.8 apg, 3.0 rpg, 0.6 spg, 0.3 bpg, 3.3 tpg, 40.6 FG%, 26.4 3P%, 80.6 FT%, Rating: 93 Derrick Rose
Player 9: 17.9 ppg, 9.5 apg, 4.6 rpg, 2.0 spg, 0.3 bpg, 2.1 tpg, 47.7 FG%, 40.4 3P%, 88.2 FT%, Rating: 94 Chris Paul
Player 10: 17.2 ppg, 10.3 apg, 4.5 rpg, 2.0 spg, 0.6 bpg, 3.7 tpg, 45.8 FG%, 30.9 3P%, 76.0 FT%, Rating: 84 John Wall
Player 11: 17.3 ppg, 7.0 apg, 2.7 rpg, 1.7 spg, 0.4 bpg, 2.8 tpg, 48.2 FG%, 34.1 3P%, 87.1 FT%, Rating: 81 Jeff Teague
Player 12: 27.3 ppg, 7.1 apg, 5.5 rpg, 2.3 spg, 0.1 bpg, 3.8 tpg, 44.8 FG%, 27.9 3P%, 82.4 FT%, Rating: 90 Russell Westbrook
If you aren't sure who is who then highlight all the stats. There really isn't a 13 point discrepancy between those players like the ratings suggest.
Depending on who you ask, Jeff Teague might not even be a top 10 point guard in the league. But the position is so good and so deep right now that he probably still deserves an 85+ rating.
So I'll go for like an 85-86 for Teague.

Really is an amazing time for Point Guards right now. Wow. Some of those ratings probably need fixed up but your point stands Alex.
I'm going to go for an 85.5 right now. Maybe I need to see this level longer to go a little higher.

I will say an 84.I feel Teague is a great player that fits his system well. Teague definitely has the system around him that has put him in a great place. Top notch PF and C along with the prototypical sharpshooter in Korver.

I think if he played more his FG% would drop down below Lowry's. Tony Parker is faulted for the system he is in, as is Duncan and Ginobli, so why shouldn't Teague.
84
Edit: I also think the big difference is that Lowry has had no one these past few weeks and has kept his team afloat. And is the best player on his team while the Hawks also have Millsap and Horford, and I may HATE Millsap, the dude can play and Horford has been alright. Teague has a lot more help than Lowry does.

By looking on those numbers and knowing that they are playing a great system, I will go with 84. He's playing the "Tony Parker role" and I feel like I never gave Parker the recognition he deserves. I will not, however, make the same mistake with Teague.
