Pau has chosen to return to the Warriors for the next three seasons. While one of the main criticisms of Golden State is that he couldn't get it done last year, he has made at least one move, and has even more assets (like Kemba Walker) which could end up being used to upgrade the roster when needed. Pau definitely noticed the addition of Trevor Ariza, and thinks Klay Thompson will take the Starting SG role from Jamal Crawford before too long.
We considered an offer from the Lakers for more money, but Pau told me pretty quickly he was not returning to Los Angeles after they traded him away two years ago.
We also considered the Thunder, but the pull to go back to the Warriors and help them get over the hump was too strong.
Congrats to Chris Mullin and the Warriors Franchise! Pau is pumped to get to work on that ring!
Year 1 - $12,500,000 Year 2 - $13,875,000 Year 3 - $15,401,250
Total - $41,776,250

I don't think that Golden State has Bird Rights on Pau Gasol. After the signing of Curry I don't think this can happen.

They had Bird Rights on Curry though. His contract is the one that applies on top of the cap space. Pau is signed using the cap space, Curry is signed with Bird Rights on top of the cap.

So now that this has actually happened, can we all agree that it's stupid and should be changed for next year? It makes no sense that bird rights contracts don't count.

That's retarded he signed Curry as soon as free agency started. Everyone else's free agents have been added to their cap.

I've always been one that supports real life rules, like the cap hold in this case that you guys are referring to I believe.

I'm not talking about a cap hold I'm talking about right now Samuel Dalembert's new contract is on Miami's roster, why isn't Curry's on Golden State's?

Bird Rights is the answer to your question. That is the way D5 bird rights work.
Do we need to make changes? Yea maybe.

It's the same thing with James Harden, Ty Lawson, Dirk Nowitzki, and Kobe Bryant, not just Curry. Their team has bird rights so contract isn't added to the cap until free agency is over.

Rules will be changed right before next offseason when Aldridge and Wall are up for contracts. Yay.....

Not having cap holds is one thing, but for the contract to not take effect until FA is over is a whole different dumb thing. I mean, the signing was announced, so it should be added just like the other signings are when they are announced. BR's should just mean you can go over the cap and have that extra year. You, as a GM, should skillfully maneuver the timings of the signings.
I mean, the draft hasn't ended and the contracts are already on the books, effecting salaries.
I was unaware of this aspect to BR's and think its utterly ridiculous.

Wall is on his rookie deal, I don't think there are cap holds on rookie contracts, but I am probably wrong. Cap holds have to come eventually. And if they don't come before the 2016 off-season, the off-season when EVERYONE becomes a FA (LeBron, Wade, Rose, CP3 PO, Love, et al.), a team in the league could end up with a "Big 5"
