Dynasty 5 Mock Draft
1. Charlotte Hornets - Jabari Parker
Parker is the most talented player in the draft and probably the favourite to win D5 Rookie of the Year. His ceiling looks to be lower than Embiid or Wiggins but his floor is also much higher. With Henson, Noel, and Conley on the roster taking a wing player makes sense.
2. Houston Rockets - Joel Embiid
Embiid is considered to be the player with the most potential and Rockets GM Charles Barkley is a big fan of him. Assuming Charlotte doesn't take him then anything else would be a surprise selection by the Rockets.
3. Boston Celtics (via ORL) - Andrew Wiggins
The Celtics will take whoever is left of the top 3 prospects. Getting Wiggins will help the team immensely, but he is probably a few years away from reaching his full potential.
4. Boston Celtics - Dante Exum
Having just taken the best player available, the Celtics can now fill a need. Exum will finally give Boston a quality point guard and allow Ben McLemore to shift back to his natural position.
5. Houston Rockets (via NOP) - Noah Vonleh
Vonleh is another player that is liked by Charles Barkley. Adding him to the roster will also give the Rockets an abundance of talented propect bigs with Embiid, Vonleh, Len, Davis, and Leonard.
6. Memphis Grizzlies - Aaron Gordon
The Grizzlies are desperate for talented players and their strategy will be to take the best player on the board. Gordon makes sense here as Jeremiah Hill is a fan, but Randle and Smart are also possibilities at this pick.
7. Denver Nuggets (via SAS) - Julius Randle
This would be a great outcome for the Nuggets as they need a power forward and Randle will be considered by many to be the most talented player still up for grabs.
8. Utah Jazz - Marcus Smart
The Jazz need post players and a point guard. Smart will fill one of those needs and give the Jazz a potential trio on the perimeter of Smart, Waiters, and Stephenson.
9. Atlanta Hawks - Tyler Ennis
The draft really begins to open up at this stage as there is no longer an obvious order for the prospects. The Hawks current starting point guard is Norris Cole so taking Ennis could be a significant upgrade.
10. New York Knicks - Doug McDermott
Maybe the most offensively talented player in the draft McDermott will be able to jump in and help fill the hole left when the Knicks traded away Ryan Anderson.
11. Atlanta Hawks (via WAS) - James Young
Young is a big wing player that is still only 18 years old. He is one of the players with the most potential for the mid 1st round prospects.
12. Phoenix Suns - Zach Lavine
Lavine is another big combo guard in the mold of Dante Exum. As a freshman he played a smaller role at UCLA this season but his athleticism should allow him to transition well to D5.
13. Philadelphia 76ers - Rodney Hood
The only hole in the Sixers lineup is at small forward. Hood can step in and try and fill that hole. As a 21 year old out of Duke he should be one of the more D5 ready players.
14. Charlotte Hornets (via LAC) - Dario Saric
The first European off the board will be Saric. He has top 10 talent but it is not confirmed if he plans to come over to D5 right away or spend at least another year in Croatia. As Charlotte's second pick they can take the chance.
15. Milwaukee Bucks - Nik Stauskas
The Big 10 Player of the Year is one of the best shooters in the draft and has the ability to at least be a good spot up shooter in the pros.
16. New Orleans Pelicans (via IND) - Jusuf Nurkic
The weakest part of the Pelicans roster is at center, this 7 footer from Bosnia can help address this need. There is a good chance he will stay in Europe but with three first round picks this isn’t that big an issue for New Orleans.
17. New Orleans Pelicans (via TOR) - Gary Harris
Predicted by most to be a lottery pick, Harris will look more and more appealing to teams if he starts to slide. He is considered to be one of the top shooting guards in this draft class and should be a solid player.
18. Boston Celtics (via CLE) - TJ Warren
With their third of five first round pick the Celtics can now just look to collect prospects. This talented scoring forward should be a solid addition to the Celtics roster.
19. New York Knicks (via SAC) - Shabazz Napier
Having already drafted McDermott to fill Ryan Anderson's spot, the Knicks can now look to fill the hole left when they traded away Derrick Rose.
20. New Orleans Pelicans (via DET) - Adreian Payne
Payne is a talented power forward that can stretch the floor. At 23 years old he should be able to make an impact right away. He won't have too much untapped potential though.
21. New York Knicks (via BKN) - PJ Hairston
Hairston left UNC after his sophomore season and played in the DLeague this year. The move appeared to work out well for him as he tore up the DLeague as one of it's top scorers.
22. Boston Celtics (via DAL) - Jerami Grant
The sophomore wing from Syracuse can come in and help the weakest part of the Celtics lineup. However with all the young talent being added to the roster Grant might struggle in Boston.
23. Minnesota Timberwolves - Kyle Anderson
This intriguing forward from UCLA was the primary ballhandler for the team and threatened to put up a trple double in every game he played. There are questions about his ability to transition to the NBA which sees him fall into the later picks of the first round.
24. Boston Celtics (via OKC) - Elfrid Payton
As the final pick for the Celtics in the first round, Payton will have an immediate role on the team as he and Dante Exum will be the only two point guards on the roster, save any potential free agent acquisitions.
25. Orlando Magic (via LAL) - KJ McDaniels
Having previously traded away their first round pick for this draft, and the recent trade of Kidd-Gilchrist, there may be pressure for Orlando regarding this pick. Taking McDaniels will give them a wing player to replace MKG in the lineup.
26. Chicago Bulls - Clint Capela
The Bulls are already a very good team, so taking this talented post player gives them the luxury of letting him develop for a few years before they need him to become a productive player.
27. LA Lakers (via DEN) - Glenn Robinson III
Robinson will bolster the Lakers small forward position, which is the only weak point in the lineup. He and Harrison Barnes give LA a duo of youngsters at the wing position.
28. New York Knicks (via POR) - Mitch McGary
Having taken prospects for the other positions McGary will be a good rookie big to add to the team. He showed flashes of brilliance at Michigan but ultimately lacked consistency. If he reaches his potential he could be a steal for the Knicks.
29. Miami Heat - Isaiah Austin
The only potential weakness for the Heat is at the center position where Andrew Bynum is unreliable and there is no solid replacement. Austin can give them a young prospect at this position to develop.
30. Atlanta Hawks (via GSW) - Cleanthony Early
The Hawks have already taken two guards in this draft, so taking this combo forward from Wichita State will complement the other two rookie they will add to their team.
