Current Rating: 77 Suggested Rating: 74 I know he's still pretty young and still pretty new to the league, but we don't really have a system in place yet. I'm proposing we can lower a rookie (if his stats warrant it) after two full seasons of play. He can always get a boost back up if he develops, but if they aren't doing enough to have their current rating after two legitimate seasons, then a bit of a drop is warranted and justifiable. 7.2 points, 5.2 rebounds...0.8 ast, 0.7 steals, 0.6 blocks. Shooting 47.3/11.1/61.4 He basically has little to no shot (still...something that we knew coming out of college), doesn't hit 3's or FT's, and is basically a solid defender who can score ok around the basket. seriously, other than right at the basket, his highest % at any spot on the floor is 42.1%. vorped.com/bball/index.php/player/shotchart/1376-Michael-Kidd-Gilchrist/season/2013-2014-REGMaybe he figures out a shot, or maybe he just stays as a solid defender getting 25 mpg for a long time. Right now I'd bet more on the latter than the former.

Give him the same ratings as Tony Allen minus some offensive skills and add a bit of shot blocking.

I kinda disagree with this one. He's a starter on a playoff team. He doesn't have a jumpshot, but he's athletic and really plays good defense. I would say 76 at the very very lowest, but since he's only a 77, I don't think any change is necessary.

I don't know where I stand on this. On one part, I agree with Josh that he is a plus defender, arguably the best wing defender the Bobcats have, on a playoff team. On the other hand, he has struggled on the offensive end since coming in to the league. But, if the scouts and GMs knew he had a horrid jump shot from the get-go, shouldn't his rookie rating have accounted for this?
I am inclined to take a wait and see approach. For a few reasons, but the first being that this playoff series will likely show us how well MKG can defend. He will have the large task of stopping LeBron; something no other guy in the league can do. If he slows him down even a bit, I would say his athletic skills and defensive attribute may need an increase. The second reason being that he is still young and needs time to develop.
76, IF I have to make a decision.

Highlight/bold part is a good thing to think about, but I'm just not remembering how we input this Rookie Class. Maybe Ian can help at some point if he looks at this. I think he made rookies at one point, but maybe he found a patch before he finished. It's possible his rating isn't very representative of his actual talents, something to ponder certainly.

I did find a NBA-Live.com patch for the 2012 draft class, but by then everyone seemed roughly content with the ratings we had. I seem to remember taking the Overall Ratings from NBA 2k13 and being a bit creative from there.

Kidd-Gilchrest only 15 minutes? He's got a +8 wonder why he's not playing.

I think 77 is fine for him for now. Athletic and a great defender. He's a good slasher he just needs a jump shot
