Apr 15, 2014 0:17:25 GMT -4 Vlade Divac said: I think this a HUGE moment, both figuratively and literally, for the Sacramento Kings. When I traded for Bogut, I made the comment that I "hope we can spread the floor." Now, I know we can spread the floor with Marc Gasol. Honestly, he's exactly what this team needs as the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in conjunction with his sweet touch from 15. Some sports gurus claim that you should be built to beat a team in your division, and I think we are built to beat the Golden State Warriors with this SPLASH! There was no way I could resign Bogut and I honestly got him to make this move, Mr. Hickson and his agent knew this was coming, but I HATE to see Danny Green go once again! In addition, and probably the most interesting part of this trade, I get Andrew Bynum. I am not worried about the cap space at all and he will be a valuable member of our bench until he gets decreased lol. Lastly, I want to think Mr. James McGowan and Mr. Charles Barkley for making this trade for me and we look forward to, hopefully, being a top tier Western team for henceforth. PS. Chris Kaman is on the block for cheap!

I accept, it's hard to give up a future pick to trade Bynum but I think this is worth it

Just for the record: I think this a HUGE moment, both figuratively and literally, for the Sacramento Kings. When I traded for Bogut, I made the comment that I "hope we can spread the floor." I'm inclined to accept. The Kings get the really interesting part of this, they get a much better player than anything they give up in Marc Gasol. But, they won't have his bird rights if he stays around that long. And, they have to take on what looks like probably the worst contract in the league in Andrew Bynum.
So, not a perfect trade, have some questions about it, but I'm going to accept.

He's been looking for a pick for Gasol for awhile. I dunno why but he wants to make it his own team and I just didn't think it was so bad as to stop it from happening. He's shown to be a knowledgeable manager, he just wants to rebuild.

Lol, Houston said this would happen. I know people will think I am bias but I think he gets a pretty good deal if he wants to rebuild.

Lol, Houston said this would happen. I know people will think I am bias but I think he gets a pretty good deal if he wants to rebuild. Well, yea... he is trading a top 5 center in the league for an expiring contract You may not like the pick but it's irresponsible to not name the pick as value he gets.

You may not like the pick but it's irresponsible to not name the pick as value he gets. Ahhh sorry! I'll try to be more responsible in my posts next time. That 2015 pick is totally worth Marc Gasol Haha I'm just saying, he does get more than an expiring contract. Which is all you said he got.

Bogut is a pretty good player and he can probably get something else or resign him if he wants too.

ah missed it. But i will also agree with Walt here. I have been talking CB about trades and it was clear from the start what he is looking to do. He is an active GM, who has a plan. Could he of gotten more for Gasol? sure he could but he feels like saving 15 million plus getting a 1st rounder is worth it.
For Vlade, he doesnt have right to Gasol which will hurt his chances on keeping him after next season so I would assume Andrew is plan B. But i can see why Vlade did it. He did not have any picks in the 1st round, so he went to a GM who needed to trade players who had horrible contracts and got something free from it, which was a 1st rounder! Genius movie, because Charles as stated he wants 1st rounders in 2014 or 2015.

Also point out two things for Houston's point of view:
#1: Coming into the season, with Otis Smith as the Rocket's GM, 10th constitutes the best place this team could realistically earn in the Western Conference due to the "Loaded 9." Being mediocre does you no good, so why not rebuild?
#2: Draft Picks are HARD to get because BOS, NOP, CHA, and a few other teams possess them all. After knowing McGowan for a while now, I am honestly SHOCKED he agreed to trade a draft pick given his past history with young talent. Therefore, the 2014 and 2015 draft picks are hard to get, especially from mediocre to bad teams, because they are all owned by a few teams.

Why I am doing this is pretty simple. Marc Gasol is a 29 year old center who has no future with the Rockets. Same with Millsap. Look at the NBA, what happens to those teams that are consistently in the 6-8th seeds? They are continually mediocre. I started the season 5-10 with Millsap and Gasol. I then figured I'd be smart to get my pick back since not having your lottery pick when you're a lottery team is a pretty terrible pladce to be in. I was over the cap this season and next season. By the team Oladipo, Kawhi, and Bledsoe hit their prime at ~27, Gasol would 33 and Millsap 34 on the back end of their careers while I am still competing with loaded teams in the West.
I am getting quite tired of this honestly. Just because the other Rockets GM was content with being mediocre and never winning a championship, doesn't mean I am going to sit there and follow his plan that made absolutely no sense to me and how I view how to win in the NBA.
As far as value for Gasol goes, none of you have spent 2+ months shopping him listening to offers, being told no. The teams that need a PF have no young talent and no picks til 2016. The teams that do have young talent are rebuilding and don't need Gasol. The small amount of teams that have young big men and could be in the position to possibly acquire Gasol aren't offering their young guys. I view Gasol as a top 5 center as Josh does, but no one else in the league does. I can't get his true value, I can only get his perceived value. There's no point in holding on to Gasol when he will leave after 2015 because he will be 31 and wanting to win a championship.
There is a reason there is such disparity between the teams in this league. Because everyone knows being in the middle is the worst position to be in. But yes guys, please keep telling me how I should just sit tight and be a 6-8th seed with no real shot at winning the Larry O'Brien. Please keep telling me I'm losing every deal when no one else would make these trades.

I'm going to accept.
It's a bit of a weird trade, but Barkley's been pushing for picks for ages, I'm ok with this.
