Current Rating: 90
Reasons for Decrease: Ok, before the decrease stuff, I actually like that Deron has returned to his fairly effective rate of 45+% FG while keeping his FT% at 81% or higher for most of his career. I really appreciate that his 3pt stroke has actually gotten better. BUT, he's down to under 15 ppg and 6.3 assists. I'm sorry, that right there is about all you need to know as to why he's no longer a 90. 15 points and 6 assists is nowhere near a 90 rating. He's still very talented but you gotta show me something. He is playing in his 9th season and will turn 30 this offseason.
Suggested Rating: 86. Still a great player, and honestly he's not playing like an 86, but this is benefit of the doubt that he'll turn it around. His stats can't keep him that high though!

Deron is a guy that used to get 10+ assists per game. I loved that guy. He would score between 19 and 21 ppg too! Awesome! His last 3 seasons, the assists are at 8.7, 7.7, and 6.3. You are really going to keep him at a 90?!?! 3 seasons isn't enough data to at least drop him off a 90? Points have gone from 21 to 18.9 to 14.6
He's playing like an 80 tbh. The 86 is factoring in what you said, his health and such. IF 3 years isn't enough with a HUGE decline, I dunno what is.

THREE SEASONS. IMO he needs to prove he IS a 90 again. Again, he's going to be 30, he's got a lot of mileage on him, and he's got a lot of injuries on his chart. The appropriate thing is to drop him a bit, and let him prove himself worthy of that 90. If he was at an 86-87 I would let it slide and say it's not worth dropping him yet, but 90 are reserved for some pretty damn special players. Deron has a lot to prove to get back to a 90 IMO.

He's a good, solid player. He's not the 2nd best PG in the league anymore, or a top 10-15 player. I could name quite a few PG's I like more than him, let alone all the other positions.
Whatever, I think 3 full (just about) seasons of declining stats and more injuries is a pretty clear trend. He could rebound quite a bit and still only be worth an 85-86. I don't really get the hesitation to drop him from a 90 which is a clear bona-fide stud in this league. Deron is simply not that, no way, no how. Make him prove it again. It's not a "rash" decision when it's Three years.
If it was 3 months, ok. But 3 years is anything but rash.

We don't have an accurate reading on Deron Williams though. His ankles have been bothering him for the majority of the year and I'd really like to see him at full health before decreasing him. He's probably not a 90 anymore, but without seeing him playing at his best, I just can't rate him. He's never gonna be healthy again, he's had the ankle injury for like 3 straight years. His on the court play has shown us nothing other than vet savvy pretty good PG. 85 from me.

I watch mostly every Nets game, and Deron is still a really good point guard. Maybe not a 90, but I wouldn't go lower than 88

I watch mostly every Nets game, and Deron is still a really good point guard. Maybe not a 90, but I wouldn't go lower than 88 See, we have to see how he recovers from his ankle injuries. I'm not saying he does not deserve a decrease, I'm saying that we can't possibly determine what rating he needs to be at without seeing him play healthy. I'm saying that a 3 year long ankle injury isn't a freak thing, it's who he is now a PG with a bum ankle. Just how Noah has permanent Plantar Facaitis (sp?) should we just never decrease him if he starts to decline because he's technically not healthy? Deron Williams is a player, a freakishly good player who is now average because of an injury that will affect his play for the rest of the time he's in the NBA.

I like Jeremiah's first sentence especially. I'm sorry but enough is enough.
The only reason I'm even recommending the 86 and others are at 85 or so is because of who he was back in 2010 and 2011 (and before). We're waaaay later than that now. He's gotta prove himself. He's playing like an 80 or 81 (really his stats are worse than IT2 who just got a BOOST to an 80). Deron is a better defender certainly than IT2 and has shown in the past he's a much better player, but players decline.
Players decline b/c of age Players decline b/c of injury Players decline b/c of wear & tear on the body.
Deron has all of these. The 85-86 range is keeping him on the high end and giving him the benefit of the doubt b/c of who he used to be. He needs to prove he even deserves that 85-86 range again IMO, let alone the hallowed 90.

It's a stock watch guys. Stocks go up, and they go down. We should decrease him to account for his current play, and if he improves, bump him up. Keeping players at inflated attribute numbers doesn't make this realistic. In the NBA, if Deron plays bad, the Nets lose. In here, on average, he plays like a 90. But in real life, he hasn't been. So our ratings should reflect his real life play.
I think he's an 86. I agree with what Walt said. And about the injuries, if we were going to wait for people to get fully healthy, we wouldn't be in the process of decreasing Andrew Bynum, and Greg Oden would likely be in the 80's.
