I am making this deal to upgrade my backcourt, especially in the area of 3 pt shooting and assists. Old and new line-ups below:
Position | Pre-trade | Post-trade |
PG SG SF PF C | Jennings / Udrih / D. Miller Young / Miles / G. Rice Jr. Johnson / Fields Monroe / Ayon Okafor / Biedrins | Chalmers / Udrih / D. Miller Jennings / Stuckey / G. Rice Jr. Johnson / Fields Monroe / Ayon Okafor / Stiemsma |
Rationale for trade / how it fits the plan
- Chalmers shoots 3+ 3 pointers/game and has been around 40% for the last 2 years with at least 4+ APG. SuperMario at PG allows me to slide Brandon Jennings to SG which is a better fit.
- Stuckey, whose full name, according to Basketball reference is Rodney Norvell Stuckey (aka Chief Lightning First Step), becomes my 6th man.
- Neither Chalmers nor Stuckey are signed past this year so if this year goes bad I still retain my flexibility and the ability to blow it all up (i.e., trade Moose) if I don't think I can win a couple of play-off series.
- Biedrins is playing less than 8 MPG and is expendable
- I like CJ Miles, a bargain free agent pick-up, but I can afford to let him go since Norvell is an upgrade.
- Nick Young has been a disappointment to date - he has no Swaggy at all.
- I hate to give up the 2014 2nd round pick, but the Grizz wanted 2015 and 2016 2nd rounders and I judge the value of my 2014 late 2nd round pick to be lower. As in the other league, when many are tanking trying to win is a good strategy.
