Memphis Gives:
82 J.R. Smith $9,163,882 $10,171,909 $10,171,909
Total Salary: 9,163,882
Washington Gives:
Memphis 2015 First Rounder
68 Evan Fournier $1,092,700 $1,139,700 $1,874,807 $2,714,720
Justification: If I get this pick it will be a top lotto pick, if he doesn't give it to me it will be a late lottery/non lotto pick for him. If I make this trade I essentially get 2 lottery picks, this year and next. Evan Fournier was one of the more intriguing prospects of his drafts who has good size and once he gets on a team that has the minutes for him could turn into a really good role player for me. This is totally about the picks for me and helping Washington be able to bring in good free agents next season. JR is obviously not a long term piece for me, but could be for Washington.

I accept.
Only MEM was interested in the 2015 First Round Pick. In exchange I get a hot-hand JR Smith who is performing pretty well on MEM. This makes it easier for me to deal Hardaway Jr. (if I do) in the future because I'll have Smith right there.

I'm confused as to why the pick would be worse if Washington kept it

Tracy, how come you wanted to trade away the Memphis pick and Tim Hardaway Jr? The problem with this trade is that it doesn't make sense for you.

Tracy, how come you wanted to trade away the Memphis pick and Tim Hardaway Jr? The problem with this trade is that it doesn't make sense for you. Not in the same trade. Hardaway Jr. has been asked for a lot in other trade talks so having Smith there would ensure that my SG spot is solid. Plus Fournier was getting barely any playing minutes from me anyway. No one has really asked about the 2015 MEM pick outside of MEM.

Because if I don't have my pick next season I'm going to compete for really good free agents and try and get to the playoffs.

TMac - you need a plan. Washington doesn't really have any choice at the moment other than to rebuild, trading away draft picks and your most talented youth is the opposite. That's what concerns me about this deal.

You guys consider Fournier one of my most talented youth? I would put him maybe 6th or 7th on my list of best young talent on my team. But I guess if this trade gets rejected I will have no choice.

I also don't really like this because of JR Smith's huge contract. But since it's Memphis' pick and not Washington's own I don't think this is that big a deal. So I may be in the minority but I'll accept.

ill accept as well, JR Contract is horrible but what i know is that JR Smith in Sims is pretty good. In real life.... not so much.

This just goes against any kind of rebuilding plan. Why would a rebuilding team want JR Smith of all veterans? He's a cancer to a young team, will train your guys that it's OK to shoot under 40% and still put up a ridiculous number of shots.
He's not THAT good that you are going to build around him.
He's not going to attract other players to your team.
Wizards should be keeping Len, Olynyk, Porter, Cole, Hardaway, Perry Jones, and Fournier, plus ALL picks (I don't care who's they are, especially if they are 1st rounders), unless he is getting some great deal for a better, still very young player.
I'd reject but it looks like it has the 3 accepts already.

Who said I was rebuilding AROUND JR? It opens up more trade options (like trading Hardaway Jr.) away in a package deal with some of my other picks (I have a lot) for a real young star to build around. I am only giving up a player who doesn't player at all on my team and his pick back.

Also tanking and drafting is only one of the many ways to rebuild a team. His team is full of young talent that can be used to get great players or other assets. It's what NYK did to get Carmelo IRL even though they gave up too much and it didn't really work out right in a year they were in the playoffs.

Just experience in here, it's pretty rare to be able to work all the right deals to go from a team like Washington has right now to a contender. They don't have even close to the pieces to put any type of package together that would get a player of Carmelo's value.
