I accept, this trade allows me to drop most of my long term money and gives me the opportunity to build "my" team. The picks, even though probably wont be game changers, are still assets to have in the rebuilding process. It will hurt to lose Horford who is a great player on an equally great contract, but it would have been a crime to waste his peak years on a team that would have been hard pressed to compete.

This is a bad trade for a few reasons. The talent heavily favours Toronto here since Granger is nowhere near his 86 rating. Also the financial situation is really bad for Atlanta. Horford, Chandler and Kaman are all good players who are locked in with affordable contracts, whereas both players for the Hawks are expiring. Finally the picks kinda suck, because we know the Warriors will be contending for at least the next few years and Toronto has a lot of talent and should easily make the playoffs in the terrible eastern conference for years to come. Sorry guys but I have to reject.

Honestly i didnt even want those guys, they were added in since Jay Z did not want them on his team. I have another trade lineup where i will be shipping both guys out of here. Horford contract is good and he is a good player but with Danny Granger still ranked a 86, shouldnt we still value him as that. I know his rating will go down, but for the time being Granger is still ranked a 86. I can also assume Atlanta wants to deal bad contracts and get picks. Adding Ellis and Granger, he could easily ship them out for other assets as well.
Atlanta also saves 24.9 million in cap space next year and has a good chance to sign someone to a max to help there team. With sucking this year, and cap space, this could only lead to great things for Atlanta in the future.

Our values are based on real life, not the ratings in this league. Granger is not an 86, anyone valuing him as an 86 player doesn't understand this league.
I know that sounds a little funny but honestly, that's the truth. Would the Hawks IRL ever consider a trade based around Danny Granger?

Almost 25 million off the books and he still got decent players

We've seen people with loads of cap space who can't sign anyone, b/c they don't have anyone good left on their roster. Or at least, not enough good players left to entice someone there.
Horford is an incredible piece to build around, he's a keeper, and unless you are getting a keeper back, you don't trade him.
I reject.

Sorry if this seems all over the place, going to try to argue against whats said.
Let me start by saying i know of Grangers demise, his value to me is his expiring and not his rating. Ellis is still a valuable piece to pick up and may still pay dividends in the near future. The picks are not great, but this trade also increases the value of my own pick this year and should be noted when making a decision.
I honestly believe there is a nice young group here that can mature into star players. Sullinger looks good, and just as the celtics hold him in high regard so do I. The Zeller brother both have talent, though i don't expect big things from them till next year.
Cap space is still cap space, just because one(or multiple teams) didn't leverage it well shouldn't doom me to failure. As for realism, Orlando pulled a similar move in that they didn't bring back a star player and almost seemed like they got pennies on the dollar.
Keeping Horford dooms me to some middle of the pack playoff team that's too good to bottom out but not good enough to compete, just like the old Atlanta team with Joe Johnson and Josh Smith. That team needed Brooklyn to save them from there cap nightmare. I have no cap space to make a move next year, and i cant compete if my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th highest paid players are Thornton, Chandler, and Kaman. With this trade I feel I can start next season with GOOD young talent, and about enough cap room for two Max contract guys if i choose to go all in next year.

What I'm trying to say is don't veto this trade in an attempt to save me from myself, i like what im getting out of this trade. I had the option to go for a star piece back or for something that frees me of my long term money, I decided starting over was better then struggling to compete.

The picks are not great, but this trade also increases the value of my own pick this year and should be noted when making a decision. It actually decreases the value of your pick. Granger and Ellis are rentals who will probably make you win more this season than with Horford. You have to have something to build around before you'll be able to lure free agents to your team. What I'm trying to say is don't veto this trade in an attempt to save me from myself, i like what im getting out of this trade. I had the option to go for a star piece back or for something that frees me of my long term money, I decided starting over was better then struggling to compete. I think that's fair enough, I like that approach. I do like that this trade gives the Hawks almost $30million cap space next season, plus although those picks are probably going to suck, they're still picks and it shows you've thought about this and planned ahead, which is a lot more than most new GMs can achieve. It's good for a new GM to demonstrate that they understand how this league works and you've done that, in my opinion. I think that Granger and Ellis actually devalue your pick this season, but I think on the balance of things this is the first sign that we have a good new GM among our ranks. I accept.

Just to add to this, I do plan on shopping Granger and Ellis extensively. Already had some words about moving Ellis to a team for a young piece. I don't want to go into too much detail, but just like Ian said there is a plan in place.

Trading Horford is a lot different than trying to trade Kevin Durant. You only need to go onto the Bleacher Report archives to see all the Hawks articles about trading Horford. I do think he can get a way better deal from a team though.

I only used that example because its written by the fans and assuming it's not written by one of their staff writers ("WHO WEARS THEIR UNIFORM THE BEST" TAGS: Kobe Lebron Durant Obama McCain NBA) it's usually a pretty good idea into what the average decently informed fan is thinking.
